So, I have a question about my g3. When I release the handle, it just falls, it won't pull back up like it is supposed to. The transmission works and moves perfectly. Do I need a new pivot spring assembly or is there a cheaper fix?

Does the bag have a lot of heavy dirt in it? that will cause the handle to fall on my moms Ultimate G.

The spring is broken or the plate it fits into is cracked. Very strong spring - inadequate plastic mount disc and barrel that splits. My G3 has the same problem, it is the plastic spring hinge cylinder barrel to blame, Kirby improved it on the G4 and the only fix I can figure out is to replace the inner barrel and end mount discs. I don't know a Kirby guy up here in the wilds of Canada so haven't bothered to order the parts.

Kirby does NOT offer any parts for repairing the springs.
If there are such anywhere, they are not thru Kirby.
(I actually took my first one apart about a week ago, just to see how it was made inside. Maybe it was 'my' commemorative to the "G Series" 20th Anniversary, to 'peek at the hidden insides.' LOL)
mho--I don't know that I would/will attempt repairing one of them (for restoring purposes). I think in that case i would just hold out for a 'good' one.

Thanks for confirming that, Bill. Drawing from memory I recall at the time discovering, by examining the G4 & G5, that one cannot simply retro-fit spring parts from the G4/5 to a G3. That's what I meant by Kirby addressing this fault and improving the spring mount on the later Gs.
What a shame...my G3 is otherwise in excellent good as new condition. Ah well, I won't waste time looking for replacement parts...I'll just wait til a trashed G3 with a perfect handle sprong action comes along.
At least the handle stays upright due to gravity and forward lean on static display. But yes, Lane, with the spring action shot to H, in use the handle falls to the floor when let go and it's an inconvenience because the power drive can and does pull the handle out of your hand more easily and frequently than one wants.
