Kirby G3

Someone donated a Kirby G3 to the church office. I saw it here tonight when I went in to make some copies. It was standing next to the copier. Not having seen one before, I was of course curious. (I know, I lead a very sheltered and deprived life! The newest Kirby I had seen until now was the Legend II which I adore!) I fired it up, expecting an unearthly roar from it. To my surprise, it really was not all that bad. I'd go so far as to say it is in fact a little quieter than the Classics, probably because of the thick outer bag and paper bag which probably muffles the sound somewhat. It is a higher-pitched motor obviously, and has a totally different sound from the Classics, but really I thot it was not all that loud. The self propel deal works and it does make the machine easier to move back and forth. The big objection I have to it is the weight -- and its "front-heaviness." That would be a real ball buster to have to lug up and down a flight of stairs.

yes--the weight of Kirby "G" sereis machines is the problem-women don't like to "slepp" them up and down stairs.--so what does it suggest in the Kirby salesmans manual-for this problem-offer the prospect TWO machines -the second one half off.I do love how they push and pull-its rather therapudec.I actually like the "front heavy" so the nozzle hugs the floor better-no skipping!Thats a good reason why the Kirby "G's" are so effective.in terms of weight-the real "ball buster" vacs are the Royal Powercast-and the real ball breaker-the Hoover "Z" series uprights-Hoover needs to put forklift pockets on those and include a forklift!The Hoover Z pushes like as though you are pushing a full contractors wheelbarrow!-no self propelled on them.The Hoover Z needs self propelled.

We're currently staying at my 82 y.o. mothers house until we find a new house, having just moved in from the west. Some of our stuff is being stored in her garage so I drug out my G3 just this morning to vacuum up her house. She tried it out and found it very easy to use since I'd carried it in, set it up etc but she could barely budge it once it was turned off. I had bought her a Panasonic Jet Flo upright quite a few years ago which she still uses to this day, it's a good cleaner for her, no dogs, light, easy to push and pull and not whiny. Plus she can pick it up and carry it.

What I've noticed about the G-series machines is that they are much more "nozzle-heavy" than the previous models...when I pick my G5 up the nozzle tends to tilt forward. I wish Kirby actually had a handle release on their machines instead of that silly locking slide lever...
