Kirby G-series Serial Number

I can not remember how to read the serial number on the G-series machines, I thought you use the first 3 digits to tell the month and year but now Im second guessing myself. What is the correct way to read the number?

1st 3 # - #1 is month, #2&3 is year

First 4 numbers are the date. Ex: 0102, 0694.

Actually, since the Heritage until the present, the serial numbers are read this way:


EXAMPLE ~~~~~ 2841021584 ~~~~~ EXAMPLE


(This example means: 21,584th machine to be made in October of 1984 in Andrews, TX.)


1st digit is the plant,

2nd & 3rd digit is the year,

4th & 5th digit is the month, &

the last 5 digits represent what number in production for that month & year.

Interesting

I was making some incorrect assumptions over the years. On my Diamond, the serial number that is engraved on the side of the unit looks to start with a 7. But the number on the barcode sticker on the bottom starts with a 1 so I assume it was the Cleveland plant. What is the significance of 7, though? Also the last 3 digits of the engraved number are 370 but on the sticker it is 374.

Hello & good morning Chris.

The serial numbers on the paper stickers on the transmission & motor are NOT supposed to match the serial number of the actual Kirby itself.

However, Kirby [supposedly] does know which components were/are matched together at/from the time of manufacture.

The new machines are much easier to track down when they have been 'bojacked' out, &/or sold thru unauthorized channels.
