Kirby G series coin slot?

I know this sounds odd, but does anyone know the purpose of the slot in plastic back of the G series Kirby handles? I've always been curious, and i saw another post saying it was to drop coins in that you find as you vacuum, but I'm thinking that might have been a joke??

I think it's suppose to be for saving money for the payments on the kit, the joke being that you put every coin you find on the floor into it (though, you'd have to have a lot of coins on the floor to cover a single month's payment!!!), I've never tried it, I think if you filled it like a proper moneybox, the weight would probably pull the handle down all the time... :S

The slot's been there since I think the Classic 1CR, so it's been a long-running feature, I'd say 99% of Kirby owners don't actually use it and just as many not even knowing what the thing's for!!

lol, omg, so it really is for coins? *faints* I thought that was just a joke. hmm, not sure i would want to try that, but an interesting thought..

Yep, it's for coins, though I'm sure you could use it for collecting other things too...

LOL! That makes perfect sense now. Is it in the manual though?? Kirby thinks of EVERYTHING! They should have a coffee cup holder on the vacuum so when it's running nice and warm you can have a coffee break afterwards.

i heard somewhere you put coins you find while vacuumiing and use them to pay for bags and belts.

Its not a coin slot...

They used to have a scraper for the shake out bag that used to go in that slot... I believe it is still available in some markets where the kirby is sold.

I can understand that if it were on the Heritage and they carried it over to the Legend II, but why on the G series?

Nope--it's a coin slot.
Every Kirby since the D-50 had a sani-pocket, but they didn't start with the coin slot until the Clasics.

In a demo the saleperson would say "And if you save the coins you pick up while vacuuming, the Kirby will pay for itself." Then he would drop in a quarter and say "See, you're saving already." Smile, chuckle, and pulls out the contract.

Yep...

I remember the Kirby sales lady saying it was to put coins in as you vacuum "youd be surprised at how much you could save".


That was 1990 we had the Legend II demonstrated, we didn't end up buying $1500.00 was to much for us back then or now lol. We also had the G4 demonstrated in 94 or 95, all thanks to my aunt who both times bought one and put our name as a referral.


But it is true its a coin slot
