Kirby Fun

VacuumLand – Vintage & Modern Vacuum Enthusiasts

Help Support VacuumLand:

And it seems odd to me that these are not near the other vacuum displays. I don’t see any supplies being sold either. Could it be Sams club? Since Costco and Sam’s Club are similar.

And for the past six months, the Kirby company has been actively opening service centers at local vacuum shops in order to handle the repairs on the machines that are sold at retail. Costco has upscale customers, many of whom would not mind paying $1295 for a vacuum cleaner made out of metal. Selling at Costco also gets rid of the old inventory that right lane industries inherited. There are some great things coming from Kirby for their authorized service centers.

You

Go to Costco and you spend alot of money. Saturdays like ever other line is checking out a person spend atleast $1000. If the wife buys a kirby and spends $1500 at Costco they won't bat an eye.
We don't know if they will sell at costcos. It's got taking some big cahones to put a vacuum like this for sale. If it works it's going to open a big revenue stream.
It will help kirby from be known as tge shady door to door sales scams.
They have not come out with a new vacuum model in 30 years. If this brings change great.

I think selling them at retail like QVC, Costco, and such is a great way to get the name out there again. People seek out what they see in stores or what they see by advertising. QVC with their tine-pay options will be great for people to be able to get a Kirby without the high interest rate loans.

If kirby has gone this far

If they've gone this far with the gseries then its about time for something new, especially if they had to start selling them at costco and had to lower the MRSP for them. I do hope this isn't the end of kirby and do hope they're planing on something new because sentria 4 (avalir 2) is looking like sentria 1's production frame (2006-2012) and now avalir 2 (2018-present) thats 4.5 years with this same model. Kirby its time for something new. This also leads me to wonder if costco will start selling the bags and belts for them, probably not but its a guess. Then that also leads me to guess well are they going to sell the other accessories such as the tile and grout kit, miracle shine kit, turbo accessory kit, along with the main cleaner at these retailers. I mean a vac shop I can see this happening but not at costco. Heres an idea kirby should do. Open up more service centers and sell them that way too. And assuming kirby does have something down the line, how would they plan to sell it, while they have a current model out, being the avalir 2? Then again kirby was suppose to have had something launched this past July and guess what, nothing happen. I understand kirby works on their own time, but as time is going on, more and more people aren't going to want to use a kirby for certain things, thus its time for some sort of change. I know for me, its the weight and acoutics of the machine, especially when using it on hard floors. I would rather use a dyson cordless to clean my hard surface floors than to use a kirby to vacuum my floors, even in canister mode.

As much as I love my Kirbys. I don't see lots of people throwing a Kirby in their cart with a less expensive Shark sitting right beside it. Especially with no demo! I would say Costco is middle class. Possibly an upper middle-class store. Far from an upscale boutique on Rodeo Drive.

Inflation right now is through the roof! Everyone is watching their pennies. I sincerely hope this a good move for Kirby because I'm an enthusiast and love the product.

I don't think opening up more service centers would do much for Kirby. In fact, my local Kirby stores are gone (One of them got into trouble with the IRS). My nearest one is about 65 miles away from me. That location did opened up two more in other areas a while ago and they really wanted to expand around my state but that plan never went well so they were forced to close the other two down. Mainly because Kirby is outdated and I agree with you on that as more people have moved on with other machines, but I know Kirby won't release a new model unless the newer one is proven to be better and right now I think staying in business is the first priority. Having vacuum stores become authorized dealers is a VERY smart move for Kirby since I'm not going to drive that far out to go visit my nearby Kirby Co often like I would with my local vacuum stores.

To clarify from my previous post, I was referring to Kirby stores. Opening more of those I don't really think would do good for Kirby but allowing other independent vacuum stores to become otherized Kirby dealers is a good thing. Just like what Oreck, Aerus, and even now Filter Queen are doing. If I had a Kirby, I would definitely take it to my local vacuum store who are now authorized to do warranty work on my Kirby rather than go drive out 65 miles to just a Kirby store.
