And looks like your cat loves it too, but I'll bet he or she didn't love it so much after you turned it on. The Sanitronic models, as well as the 500 series, were my favorite Kirbys. Did you get attachments with it?

Tom Tiger and the Dual Sanitronic 80
Thanks for writing, Jeff. Unfortunately, Tom didn't get the pleasure of the inaugural vacuuming, but the 8 cats temporarily living here with their owner didn't have a problem with it. I got attatchments-all in matching avocado in a non Kirby storage bag. I have a hose, a wand, a curved semi wand, dust brush, a pet(?)groomer, upholstery tool, crevice tool, an "elbow" with a swivel in it. Also a tiny removable crevice tool brush. And a mismatched crevice tool with brush, and a nice upholstery tool w/brush. I'm going to try some of them out tomorrow. And I caught your comment to GE1969 about Westinghouse, and I'll give you my two cents in the off-topic forum. I am a Westinghouse and General Electric collector. THe D80 is one of my favorite Kirbys when it is in good shape, and probably the ugliest when beat up, and yours looks pretty good. It is a light Kirby, but still has a good 2 speed motor and good power.

I can understand what you mean about what they look like in each respect, mine is in excellent shape, having been refurbished for it's previous owner by Kirby in 1988 doesn't hurt either. It could stand a good polishing, I'll check out some Mother's Mag polish, or try some of my Turtle Wax cleaner compound on an inconspicuous place. Two speed motor? Hmmmm.... If anyone has a book they would sell off, let's make a deal. Maybe I can train Tom to vacuum the living room when he decides to come back inside. Thanks for your input. Have a great week!

All Kirbys since the D50 have 2 speed motors. One speed is used when vacuuming the floor, and the other when the hose is beeing used (not sure about the other tools they had). This is done automatically with the safety switch at the bottom of the fan chamber opwning.

Thanks compactc9! I didn't notice a switch, but that doesn't mean anything, a lot of stuff gets past me. What I want to know now, is what is the plastic switch on top of the fan housing? When you push it to the left, a pin comes out, and sticks out over the on-off button. And again, if anyone has a book, or wants to scan something, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks everybody.

Hi Alan, one of the uses for that is if you move it all the way to one direction you can make the handle go almost level with the machine, making it easier to get under things. I also believe their was a use for it with the polisher attachment.
Mystery "switch"
Hi Terry and thanks for clearing up another mystery, and so quickly too. One of these centuries I may get a polisher, right now there is hardly any visible hard floor space. I tried out my hose, curved and straight wands, swivel "elbow", and upholstery tool yesterday, I hit the high spots, so to speak, it was interesting. I'm going to the store later to get the 50th Jubilee Electrolux I found. Think it may be a good idea. More later, thanks,

Great here, not perfect, but better. How are you? I've been experimenting with the Kirby, but hadn't done the thing with the belt your way yet, but certainly will. Belt will need replacing, but actually still works. As long as I don't have to deal with Kirby salespeople, I'm sure I can find one.
