I've noticed that Kirby used two different bags on the Classic Omega. I have a 1CB bag that has a woven pattern to it. However, I've also seen photos of a simpler corduroy bag that's similar to the 1CR bag design. That leads me to assume that the simpler corduroy bag was first in production. I'm wondering if anyone might have information on that. I'm just curious. Thanks!

Yes, i believe that is right,,the first Classic Omega's had the same simple courduroy bag as the Classic 1CR. The first Omega's also had the same Speed Selector Switch as the Classic 1CR. Not sure when they went to the newer version. Im assuming not too long after first production,,as these types of Omega's are sort of rare.
I love the Classic Kirby series and Traditions,,especially when they are newly rebuilt, shined up, ect. The brown 1CR and Rosewood Omega are kinda ugly looking when they have been abused, the bag is filthy,,and the metal is dull.

I could be wrong

But the bag in the picture was called the armor bag. It was supposed to be an improvement over the 1-CR bag. Problem with it was it was too air tight. When they plugged up they had a tendency to blow off the emptor. Kirby replaced it with the Classic gold bag with the omega patch. That is what the Kirby distributor I worked for told me back in the early 80's when I questioned it.

Early Omega Safety Switch?

Did the Classic Omega 1CB really have the same safety switch design as models Dual Sanitronic 50 to Classic 1CR when originally introduced in July 1973?

What serial #s had the D50-thru-Classic 1CR safety switch?

Yes, i have an original Omega, that was early production,,,it DOES have the same Safety Switch as the D50,D80, and Classic 1CR. Im sure it was never rebuilt, repaired,,ect. over the years. Belonged to a family friend, so i know its history.

I've never seen the striped bag, so now I have a new quest to find one of each bag style! LOL! It sounds like Kirby had a different bag style that corresponded roughly with each year of production on the Omega. The material used to make the woven pattern on the bag I have seems to be made out of plastic. So I can see how that would restrict airflow and cause the bag to clog up prematurely, especially if it wasn't emptied after each use.

Ben, i dont know what or how the succession of serial numbers goes or plays out,or if this will help you,,but the serial number on my Classic Omega is M266737.

the last one..

is my fav. I have had Omega's with all three bag designs and the gold one is truly my fav. It stays true to it's 70's roots and is the largest in size. The other two were more slender when inflated.

Seeing these pics makes me mad at myself.

Several yrs ago i gave away a beautiful Factory Rebuilt Omega, full attachments, and shampooer to a neighbor/friend in need,,thinking they would use it. They mentioned one time they didnt even have a vacuum, so i gave them the Omega and all with the understanding that if they didnt like it, they would give it back, or if they wanted to keep it,at least pay for what i had in it.
They then skipped out in the middle of the night not long after,,and i heard later the attachments, hose and shampooer ALL went in the trash. The did take the Omega however.
When i sent it in, The machine came back from the factory with the Pin Strip bag,and Omega Logo badge, brand new.
Was a stupid thing to do giving them that Omega. GRRRR
OOhh well, too late smart and too soon dumb.
