Kirby Classic Bearing

Yesterday, I took apart my Classic III to service the front bearing. I took the armature out and noticed that there is a clip holding the front bearing in. The clip looks like it can be pried off with needle nose priers and the bearing will pop out. I’m correct on this? Can the front bearing be removed without a bearing puller? I already have a new bearing that I bought some time ago.

After I realized I couldn’t get the bearing out easily. I got frustrated and put the whole vacuum back together.

My Kirby Classic III, Omega and Tradition all need new front bearings and possibly rear bearings.

My Classic III also has a burnt safety switch. After I replaced it with one from a spare Omega, I noticed that there is quite a little of sparking when using the vacuum on hi. Could a bad motor/armature cause a safety switch to burn out?

Kenny, I bought a set of those pliers at Harbor Freight and they didn't work very well. So I invested in a set at Sears and they worked great. I tried removing that retaining ring with a pair of needle nose pliers and just about killed myself! The special pliers are well worth the investment.
