I finally have a Kirby Classic! I have several questions:

1. It's been retrofitted to take F and G bags!! (When would this have been done? I love it because my other Kirby just has too much suction)
2. Any recommendations on how to polish the chrome?
3. What else should I know about it? It was made around 1970

Answer to #1: No, this was likely done by a local mom-n-pop vac shop during the early to mid 1980s.

Answer to #2: Mother's Magnesium Polish, Flitz, or Meguiar's, may work.

Answer to #3: Yes, the Kirby Classic 1CR was produced from 1970 to 1973.

Here is my 1972 Classic which looks all original externally.

Although it's not original, I rather like the look of the plaid bag. It would be a nice touch to fit it with an original bag topper and bag guard band. I agree with you that I would prefer a filter bag system to the original dump bag setup, even if it's not done with Kirby parts. It should polish up very nicely. You can get a buffing wheel kit for an electric drill for about $10 or so at places like Home Depot or online. That and some Mother's will make it gleam! Keep us updated on your progress.
