I hosted a mini meet this past weekend. Lots of good food and good friends. Adam (adambomb on VL) our resident Kirby guru, brought his brand new Kirby Avalir 2.

We decided to take it for a ride.

I have a 1991 Kirby Generation 3, and to me, it's the same model they've made for the past 28 years now.

Here's Adam 'selling' us on the new Avalir. You just can't get Kirby salesmen to leave - LOL.

We decided to go Head to Head with his brand new machine, and my 'old' one. They cleaned exactly the same - but the Generation 3 is easier to push (more powerful transmission).

But you know me. Not one to sit by, I tool the Avalir 2 apart, and replaced most of the pieces on my Generation 3 with Avalir 2 parts. I made a "Gen - a - Lir"
When Kirby actually comes out with a new model, I'll try it. This color change stuff is for the birds.

I sent the late Clay Floyd's Hoover 150 home with Adam. He'll appreciate it. He's not a Hoover snob but he really likes them. Clay's Hoover won a Best Restored blue ribbon back when the old VCCC used to be in existence, more than 20 years ago.

New vacuum collector from the Ozarks, Dalton Frost with his Hoover from the late Clay Floyd and Bob Humphreys new Sanitaire also from the late Clay Floyd.

Oh the Irony

Adam Mercer decided to use the Kirby Classic III, part of Stan Kann's collection, to clean the Dyson rug on the front porch. Stan didn't really like Kirbys, but accepted machines that were given to him with grace and class. He was always trying to find someone to take the Classic III off his hands, but never did.

Demonstrating the Air-Way Sanitizor Mark V to new friend Dalton Frost from Springfield, MO. Back in the days of the old VCCC, we used to do this all the time. How fun to share knowledge with new and interested collectors.

Dinner Time

We had Chicken Parmesan over a spicy tomato relish, home made Italian bread, steamed veggies, potatoes au gratin, and for desert - blueberry muffins with a streusel topping. There wasn't one bite left. Always fun to have a dinner party with vacuum friends.

From the left, myself and my husband Donnie, Chris and his boyfriend Adam (Adambomb on VL), Bob, Dalton and his boyfriend Austin.

wish I could have been there

Wish I could have been there but since driving is a problem for me, that would have been difficult, definitely looking forward to the convention in about a month, and it sounds like everyone was mostly focused on uprights this time and I'm a canister only guy, that dinner sounded amazing.
Mike

Mike, you know I love canisters too. One of my most favorite vacuum cleaners to use of all is the general electric swivel top that was launched just in time for Christmas 1959. So over built it isn’t funny, the motor in that machine will run for hundreds of years. The airflow is amazing.
