Kirby 512 handi-butler help

Hello,

I have a Kirby 512 that I enjoy. Recently I was thrilled to find a handi-butler mark 2 set that seems to never have been used. Couldn't wait to try it out only to find it doesn't fit/attach to my 512 - Rats! It never occurred to me that the different handi-butler models would only fit certain vacuum models, I was sure they would be interchangeable.

Anyone know which handi-butler model will attach to my trusty 512?

Only up to the Model 515. After that, the design of the motor housing was changed (with the Model 516), and none of the accessories for models thereafter will fit the older ones.

Charles is correct. . . you will need the Handi-Butler that fits models 505 to 515, even though the device first appeared during the 509 run.

1st Handi-Butler: models 509 to 515 (Handi-Sharpener appeared with model 513)
2nd Handi-Butler: models 516 to 518
3rd Handi-Butler ("Mark II"): models 518 to 561
4th Handi-Butler ("Mark III"): models 562 and Sanitronic VII
5th Handi-Butler ("Mark IV"): models Dual Sanitronic 50, Dual Sanitronic 80 and Classic 1CR
6th Handi-Butler: model Classic Omega 1CB
7th Handi-Butler: models Classic III 2CB and Tradition 3CB
8th Handi-Butler: model Heritage 1HD

Handi-Butler 1 will only work with said models.
Handi-Butlers 2, 3 and 4 will fit across all models 516 to Sanitronic VII.
Handi-Butler 5 will only work with said models.
Handi-Butlers 6 and 7 will fit across all models Classic Omega 1CB, Classic III 2CB and Tradition 3CB, with the exception of a few of the very first models of the lattermost machine that were built with the speed switch on the headlight assembly.

Thanks so much Ben for the timeline information - it's a pleasure to have things explained so clearly.

Looks like I need to find another Kirby to fit the mark 2 and a mark 1 to fit my 512...lots to do.
