I recently bought a Kirby 510 with a cracked Emptor and am wondering how to go about finding a replacement emptor. It seems that it would almost be easier to buy another Kirby and use the emptor.

I went looking a parts machine and found a 519 with has a different looking emptor. Would that fit on my Kirby 510?

The brush roll on my 510 looks like it about wore out and I am wondering if the 519 nozzle could fit on that unit. It seems the brushes have changed on the 519(starting at 513) and are easier to replace then the 510. Is there a better source for a replacement brush roll for the 510?

Let me know what you all think.

Thanks,
Patrick

About the Emptors and Rug Nozzles

Patrick,
The 519 model Sani-Emptor will not fit models 515 or older. (I happen to have two 519's -one was my parents'- and know the difference in these two models.
The exhaust opening(516 and later) where this connects is horizontal (blowing directly outward). As you know; your 510 has a diagonal exhaust (blowing diagonally upward) so they are not interchangeable between models. Rug nozzles from models 516 and later will not fit on a 510. As for the brushroll not fitting; the bottom bracket plate under the nozzle would have to be replaced with one that will accommodate a later 500-series brushroll. Lou

Lou is correct. The motor housings for models C-515 and 516-LII are different, so the Sani Em-Tors would be, too. The former group has an angled exhaust neck while the latter group would have a straight neck.

Sani Em-Tor castings
Part no. 1799S for models C to 515
Part no. 180062S for models 516 to D80
Part no. 179978S for models 1CR to LII

"..With a cracked Sani-Emptor"

Now, HOW do you even do that?

It's the older Cousin of the Classic III with the split housing, Anyone else remember that thread?

I just bought the Kirby 510 on Monday as is from the Salvation Army Thrift store knowing the emptor was an issues. For some reason I think they the previous owner used a hammer to slam the emptor back on the Kirby. When I was looking inside it seems that they taped the gasket back together and it made it too big for the unit and that might be why the crack developed.

I try to be nice to my equipment. The only think I have played hard with and used a hammer on is my Maytag Wringer Washer. The only reason I did that was to open the transmission and replace the bad gasket since the unit was leaking oil.

By the way I also have a Kirby Heritage. There seems to be a huge difference between the 510 and the Heritage. My grandma though the Kirby she owned in the 1950s/60s was so heavy, but I think units made later are much heavier.

Yes, starting from the Classic 1CR introduced in early 1970, Kirbys would be heavier. The Tech Drive transmission used since the time of the Generation 3 made it heavier still.

I hope all the best toward your 510...

The 510 nozzle has two screws in the nozzle that the brush roll rides on, also the rug plate on the 510 nozzle is about 3 to 4 inches long, the rug plate on the later models run the full length of the nozzle and would sit strangely on the older nozzle if at all.

The Kirby brush roll (2 row / 13 inch)(open end) for the 505 to 512 series is still available from Kirby it's part # 1482S

Kirbykid,

Your just the man I've been looking for! You wouldn't happen to have a handle and fork for a C, and maybe its old tattered bag to boot, would you?
