Kirby 509 and dirt meter

This is my newest and literally oldest vacuum in my trio, However the dirt meter seen in the image came with my 519 it never would work with it cause of the fittings and looking online I cant find any information on the 509 meter, so if anyone could show me a complete one for reference, unless this is for another machine entirely, also the shake out bag is in sad shape, the wheels were rusted in place and I had to wire wheel the axels, I have a feeling this machine sat in a basement for many years. but any information on the dirt meter if this model ever had one, would be welcomed, thanks

Early Dirt Meter

I have one of the early dirt meters. They are extremely rare, not many collectors have one. I'm not sure if they were official dirt meters coming from Kirby or if some of the dealers created these on their own. The one I have doesn't fit all that easily on the Kirby but it was definitely designed to fit. Yours is just missing the removable bottom that would hold the dirt pad to show the dirt on. A007KirbyMan tells me the glass on mine is scratched up as a result of the demo. The demonstrator would take some sand and put it on the glass and then rub the sand with a quarter to demonstrate the effect of sand on the carpet fibers.

thanks I see its held on by snap clips, I could likely fabricate a cover given its a pretty simple design, I dont think this meter was ever used given how clear the glass is still, likely was always missing the cap, thanks for the info
