You did a very good job. Where the bag lip is isn't shiny. I was told how to make that polish too but I don't remember what it was.
I usually have issues inside the emtors. They get pitted and they can't be buffed.
I play devil's advocate, how do you know the emtors aren't 508 or 509's.

Take a guess less. There is a way to tell, do you know the difference? You are right it could be a early production 508. take a shot at it.

Sir I was on 30 minute lunch at work. I didn't have time to reread the thread.
I thought you might be implying how to clean upper part of the entire.
If you have a 505 emtor the swivel rivet whatever that latch you call is thinner and not as bulky as the 508s. The gaskets were thinner on 505's and the seal alit better. It doesn't have sweet aire. It has a black tray or occasionally a metal tray just like the 4c. I have a 2c Tor 4c and 3 505 original emtors. I do know the difference.
I do know how to clean the top part of the emtor it looks like you don't. If you are going to critique me go ahead. I use my phone and don't post or read this forum much anymore. If I was retired and had time to properly read every question and answer it I would.
I will say your restoring skills are good but mine are better. If you post an entire with build up still where the bag springs go and the tiniest details are missed . I'm not going to show you my restorationns. Look at my pic I use as my avatar. Look at my old posts. I can and have restored vacuums to the smallest detail. If you don't get the smallest detail on an entire I can only assume that is what you do. You do a very impressive job with small things missed. I'd say pay attention to the small things maybe you will get better. I'm coming across as cocky and arrogant. Look my stuff up it's not hard.
You think you are the expert on Kirby's and your not. I know Alex Taber, a007kirbyguy, Mike baldo, Charles Lester and Tom gasko, Adam mercer, Thomas stepien are the people who know Kirby and are experts. I have talked to all of them and studied Kirby's history quite a bit. I'm not an expert but I'm not going out on a limb saying I know more about Kirby than you and I can restore a vacuum better than you. We can keep at this. I could actually try and restore a 500 series period correct not missing the small details and have knowledge about that model.

Enjoy your retirement but don't assume your more knowledgeable than me. I'm sure when I retire in 26 years I hope my skills wouldn't diminish and I'd restore a Oldsmobile 442 and I'd learn history on it. I'm not retired or lacking skillsm. I'd recommend talking to people who are experts and you can improve your knowledge. I also wouldn't post emtors that you didn't polish the top of.
You can learn more but lack of detail is something you can't usually change. I imagine you have a shiny polished car but the motor runs like crap. If you don't complete the project down to every detail now that you have time it's not going to be something your going to do. I wish you a happy retirement stick to learning and not teaching. Real question
I'm not going out on a limb but do you have an all original 505? I have 1 and it was one owner. I had a model 1c that a man in his 50's in Wisconsin inherited from his grandfather. The 1c a local dealer refurbished in October of 1971. It had cr1 wheels, bag and cord but Black paint was stripped and stained in 1971. I have a model 3c missing original bag, cord and emtor. It was a 2 owner machine as the person who sold it to me got it at an estate sale in California. I have the 505 all original and the owner passed away and their kids found it and I'm the owner. It has a notch filed where the belt cap goes similar to belt lifter 505's. I have a 508 all original missing only the bag. It was a vacuum collectors prize possession it had a 513 bag on it. I have a 509 that everything was original except the bag. It was owned by a thrift store employee who passed away. I have 2 510s all original except the bags.
I bought a 505 emtor from a Kirby dealer who posts here and it was off a 505. I used it and made a HEPA setup for my older vacuums.
When you come on here questioning someones knowledge is one thing. I mentioned a few of the original machines I have. You pieced yours together from people who part out old vacuums. If you don't have an all original machine how can you ask someone like myself who has posted pics of all original machines and helped other collectors identify theirs.
Look in the archives you may learn something. I have every Kirby manual including both 505 manuals up through Avalir. I have exploded diagrams from 505 to Avalir in a binder. I have repair manuals from 505 to Avalor digitally. I have owned every single bag Kirby has produced from 505 to sentria. I have 40-50 books that are parts catalog or albums of old vacuum ads. I'm not even claiming I'm the Kirby expert. I'm proving a point that you don't have an original machine but a parts together version and you can't be certain there ,505 mentors.
You need to learn how to polish better. You post 2 emtors that you can't be positive there original. I know what they look like because I own one and a fully original machine and you don't.
Don't post how nice 505 emtors clean up. You must have been a used car sales man because if you don't have the Real McCoy and no I'm not talking about the bootlegger during the prohibition I'm talking documented proof it's authentic.
Your not as smart as you think and your restoration jobs are above average but I can restore vacuums better and I know slot about Kirby based on proof.
