Did you need to rebuild the motor on this one?
Only asking as I may need some guidance on the switch wiring for one of these. I just picked one up in great shape….the motor sounds good, but could probably use some love after so many years.

Myvacsrock, I did disassemble the motor for cleaning. It's not hard just put it back together the way you found it, label the wiring, and take notes and pictures as you take it apart.
Les is correct I got this on eBay they still show up from time to time. Thank you les for your compliments.

Seen the vacuum and was watching it on ebay. It looks alot better in the after pictures. If it was on ebay in its current state it would fetch significantly more than Jim paid. It goes to show the correct pieces refurbish and polish worth the effort. Its just like the 505 with an all metal emtor.
The switch has positive and negative connections on the upper left and lower right on the face of the switch. The side of the switch has a screw/post for the ground wire. Black was positive white was negative and ground wires were black. There's black and white from power headlight and black and white for the safety switch. The coil one side is positive black wire. The other coil wire also black is the groundwork.
What might be throwing you off is the headlight or the safety switch. If I'm correct vacuums with the cord hard wired have black on one prong of the switch and white on the opposite prong. I could go on but I'm pretty sure what i said answered your question.
If Ben reads this he can attach the 505 wiring diagram from his kirby service manual.

Thanks again for the kind words. I would like to think that this 4C would sell for much more then I paid, but I'm not sure there are to many people who are willing to pay what these early Kirby's are worth. Here are some pictures of the 505 wiring diagram. Myvacsrock I hope this helps.
