Hello. I took my Kirby 3CB Tradition vacuum apart to repair the fan. I have since misplaced the screws / bolts that attach the face to the rest of the vacuum. Does anyone happen to know the correct bolt size so I can purchase replacement bolts? I tried both 10-24 and 10-32 and neither seem to be correct.

Thanks!

Nick,

The screws you need for this machine, produced from 1979-81, are:

102168 - speed switch mounting screw (2 used) (for models with top-mount speed switch)
110673 - foot switch mounting screw, top
110773 - foot switch mounting screw, bottom
134673 - fan housing screw, long (1 used)
134756 - motor housing screw, short (round head) (3 used)
135169 - motor housing screw, short (flat head) (1 used)
138470 - motor shell mounting screw (2 used)
162679 - headlight assembly screw (2 used on models with top-mount speed switch; 4 used on models with bottom-mount speed switch)

Those are Kirby part numbers, by the way! And good for you to fix your Kirby, it'll keep on trucking with that new fan!  Most little people who've tossed the thing the moment that fan exploded! What's the story behind your Tradition, if you don't mind sharing?

Ben,

Thank you for the info. I was hoping someone might know the sizes of these:

134673 - fan housing screw, long (1 used)
134756 - motor housing screw, short (round head) (3 used)
135169 - motor housing screw, short (flat head) (1 used)
138470 - motor shell mounting screw (2 used)

as I'd like to just purchase them from a local hardware store. It seems like it will be prohibitively expensive to purchase them from an online parts place, but I'll check again.

Thanks again!

Supersweeper,

I like the Tradition, yeah. I got it from my folks when they purchased a Dyson. I like the Kirby as it seems like it will work pretty much forever if I take care of it. I also like that I can do my own repairs (if I hadn't lost those screws).

Thanks,

-Nick

The screws that bolt the fan housing together are 10-24 by 1/2" the one at the top of the front is 10-24 by (I think 3/4" or 1")
