Picked this machine up at the local tip .A woman was about to throw it in the skip.[here in the Uk once something is in the skip your not allowed to go in there to get it. Its gone for good]Once home i plugged it in .It did run but was very noisy .New set of bearings soon cured that problem . Next i stripped it down for a good clean and a polish problem is i dismantled the belt lifter and have now completely forgotten how it goes back together. I also cant remember where the small black clip goes [i suspect its something to do with the headlamp not staying in the upright position] Any help would be much appreciated

i still never understood why in the UK after someone threw something out its illegal to save it? seems like a law written to protect the rubbish collection companies. otherwise has no point

The UK is very controlled like Nazi Germany, the government tells you what you can and cannot do, and the people are taught to obey it. You even have police come to your house now and fine you for what you say on Twitter now. Not a joke.

I still would have gone and got it anyway, they going to fill up all the jails in scotland yard with people taking trash?

I had a Tradition before but I scrapped it along with the 560 that I had before as well because there was a problem or two with it and I've later regretted it since then, the 560 not so much. I've also regretted not taking my neighbor's G6 2000 or 2001 Limited Edition that they threw out in the trash. I hope someday I'll find another Tradition and keep it permanently.

its clear to me you have never seen a uk recycling centre .You cannot retrieve anything from the skips because they are huge .falling into one would not be a good thing to do .the reason you cant go into them is purely health and safety . Our government dont tell us what to do [the bunch of wankers we have at the moment couldn't tell a joke[

Back when I lived in an apartment complex I made a long pole with a hook on the end for fishing things out. Invaluable to have, I recommend making one.

Yeah you gotta use a whaling hook, they are really handy and you can grab about anything with it.

Anthony, great job at saving this machine!
I sure wish there was a better way at letting people take other's reusable discards.
Afterall, reuse and repurposing is much better than recycling. And reuse leads to reduce!

That spring clip presses on the center of the headlight pivot pin to keep tension on it so that the headlight stays up on its own. It gets installed once it is all put together.
See Pic 15 and pry the clip in with some small screwdrivers.
This is used when a solid pin is used, rather than the split roll pin that my Tradition used.

I have an almost-complete Tradition in good working condition, going spare (I bought it just for the incorrect bag on it).

If you need anything for yours, such as trim, cord-hooks, rugplate...let me know and I'll try to help you out. It'll save you buying multiple machines, or high postage & import fees from the USA.

I think you can take something from a skip providing you ask the owner. In case it's not rubbish e.g. topsoil and hardcore going to a different location.
This also prevents journalists and the like from going through your trash for gossip ammunition. And helps prevent identity fraud.

Apparently, if you take any item from fly-tipped rubbish or abandoned waste in a public area (e.g. taking wheels from an old pram to build a go-kart), you then become responsible for the whole load and can be prosecuted for dumping.

We have the most CCTV cameras of any country. Every home. Every public building. Facial recognition on railways and supermarkets. Numberplate recognition... It's incredible.

He has a few restoration threads there good reads too.
