I just so happened to be walking up to St. Vinnies as the truck was being unloaded when out came this filthy Kenmore which I promptly bought before it hit the sidewalk and for only a measly $5. Didn't even both to try it.
Here it is at home before

And after about one hours labour, washing, erasering, etc. Surprisingly it was mostly just surface dirt, the undersides were near cleaner than the top LOL so it was an easy one.
And it's the near deluxe 2 speed model with the as usual handle controlled on/off. Dial a pile adjustment. Kinda matches my Kenmore canister.

BUT WAIT THERE"S MORE

For another $5 this was waiting inside for me. A black Panasonic to add to the ever growing collection of these things. And it was in fabulous condition, barely a scratch and clean clean clean. I do like em even if they're not that vintagey

What a wonderful find....

Pete,

What a wonderful Kenmore find. I have had several over the years and really like them but I enjoy the original "singer" built machines more.

My most recent Kenmore was a later two-speed model with cord reel, identical to yours in construction, however done up in cinnamon brown and beige, with a wild floral bag of similar design that I gifted to Kyle Krichbaum. It was in perfect shape, the cord reel worked perfect, and had a basically new brushroll.

He enjoyed it so much, that I figured I would let him have it...after all he has shared many things with me.

Good find...

I paid about $10.00 more for mine than you did yours.....

I never meant to collect them that's for sure but you know how difficult it is to say no to a flowery bag

Pete, you do find the neatest things, congratulations and what a fantastic job you did on that Kenmore!!

Pete, you certainly have the knack for finding the bargains! Very nice vacuums, especially the Kenmore. I love the flowery bag. What an easy restoration too, it just needed a little elbow grease to be perfect.

Hey Pete!

Great find! I have the blue kenmore as well, except with the cord reel. I find it grooms the carpet really well, just wear the ear plugs!

I'm with you on the flowery bags...the gaudier the better!

Well I was trying out that black Panasonic today because I hadn't really tried it out other than a cursory on/off up and down the carpet. I noticed it didn't seem to be picking anything up as it should, brushroll was turning.. So I looked down the suction tube between the bag and base and it was packed, just packed with carpet fuzz. Like someone had used it on brand new beige carpeting. Got clogged when it wouldn't negotiated the turn in the tubing. Took about 4 minutes to clear it and it works beautifully. I have to wonder if the previous owners ditched it because they thought it wasn't working very well.

same story here with my black Panasonic. suction inlet in nozzle packed with pet hair and bag filled to the brim. its a good thing these Panasonics have an air bleed built into the cabinet to preserve the motor. i cleaned out the clog, installed new bag and belt and lubed the agitator and works like new. these machines are a pleasure to use.

David, have you ever removed the back cover to get at the motor. I haven't and I was trying to last night on the red commercial model to see why the motor is so loud. Anyways I can't find which screwdriver fits down into those recessed holes on the back. Do you know? My eyes are so bad I can't see and I'm hoping the screws are some proprietary ones or oddballs like snake eyes

funny that you ask that, Pete. i took apart my entire machine due to pet and Carpet Fresh stench. the screws you need to worry about are not on the back. there are two behind the bottom part of the bag cover and two (forward facing) at the very bottom edge of the body. once you locate these you may be surprised at how easy these machines are to take apart.
