I am looking at buying a Kenmore progressive canister for $60. Should I consider? Its the newer one with an extra smaller power brush for stairs and such.

Is it any good. What could it be compared to? Oreck? kirby?

Okay When New(er):

Brandon:

Kenmore is Sears, and they make a vacuum that's very nice when it is new, or fairly new. The only trouble is that Sears has gotten very aggressive with discontinuing parts; this makes it harder for people to repair old stuff, and encourages the sale of new stuff. From their standpoint, it's good business. From a consumer standpoint, it's very frustrating to find that a part for a fairly recent machine is NLA. A few years ago, I had to throw out a ten-year-old Kenmore canister because the hose was NLA. That's too soon, in my opinion; a higher-end vacuum should be repairable for longer than that.

For the price you're being charged, go ahead and get it; you'll probably get a lot more than $60 worth of use from it before it goes kaflooey. But I personally would not want to buy another new Sears vac, because I wouldn't want to have the experience I just described again. I could clearly remember buying the vac, and the money I shelled out for it, and there I was throwing it away over one part that I couldn't get.

I would agree on the your thinking about a New Kenmore vacuum. I have a friend who's family (while he was growing up). Never owned any appliance other then Sears. So he did
the same for 20 years and phoned me last year to ask about
vacuums, other then Kenmore. As he will never buy another
sears product due to service problems he has had in the past two years with his less then 5 year old appliances.
Being a person of Cannister liking, he is now the proud owner
of a new Meile. Loves it !!
