I found this at goodwill today for $9.99. It has all the attachments with it. Even the turbo tool. It is in awesome condition. I pulled the canister off in the store and could see it was full. When I got home I dumped it outside. Another thing could have not fit in that canister. It smells like dog horribly but the filters are in good shape. I am hoping I can get the dog scent out of them. After I washed the filters, I sprayed them good with Natures Miracle. I have had good luck doing this in the past. The thing I can not figure out is why there is a little pocket like thing inside the canister. I tried the vacuum out on our front porch and WOW this thing is quiet. Also when I turned the brush on, it took off. Thank god I had a good grip on it. All in all I am very happy with it.

I sold them at Sears... I rather liked the way they looked and sounded but the plastic was very fragile and they clogged fast and were not fun to empty.

I don't remember a pocket inside the dirt chamber.... have you a picture to share?

Congrats on your new find!

Those are cool. Ive always wanted a bagged one. I was never to keen on Kenmore's bagless system, although ive never tried it myself (except in the store of corurse). A friend had the cord reel bagless and i recall it being messy to clean.

OK, I do remember that now, though I don't know what is is for. I can only assume it's to trap fine dust to keep it separate from the filter as long as possible. Can't be an easy place to clean out though!

When I worked at Sears, we got a lot of magazines every month called something like "Home Trends".... they were to introduce new products. I loved them, but they usually didn't teach us much.... I've kept all of them, and if I can find the one that introduced that machine, I will scan it and post it here for you. There was an orange version as well that was identical, and it came out first. I seriously had a lady come in and consider buying both machines so she'd have vacuums that were the colors of the Florida Gators football team (people are freaks about orange and blue here if they are Gators fans).... it was all I could do to talk her into the purple bagged Kenmore Direct Drive. The only difference between that and the blue one if I can remember right is that the model number was slighly different and one of them came with a 30 foot extension hose.... these came out right when the Panasonic Dual Sweep machines (also with double hoses) were popular. They had another version that was identical with dual, counter-rotating brushrolls that was a very light green color to compete with the Hoover Windtunnel Dual V. Neither lasted long!

I can't work out that pocket? Is it like a plastic bin baffle? (like in a dyson..) I know they are use in dysons to force the dust to settle faster..

Here is my Thift Store Progressive Find

Mine is a bagged model, and when I saw it, it had a sticker that said it needed a new belt. Was $25.00 but it was half price day so I got it for $12.50. Got it home on the bus (boy that was fun!) and noticed that the switch for the brushroll was in the off position. I turned it on, and like yours, it tried to run away. I really like the vacuum, and use it regularly.

Looks good, and I've never heard of a beltless cleaner before!

I use those little "tabs" you can buy that smell of lavender (well mine do, you can get different scents) that you can put in the bag/canister.

Perhaps that would get the bad smell out.

Jamie - Japan's Panasonic invented a really innovative method of propelling a brush roll by hiding the motor INSIDE the brush roll. It seems to be a very successful concept as all the Panasonic and Kenmore beltless Direct Drive vacs we have seen in North America are very good performers. Besides the elimination of a belt or gears, the concept allows the user to slow down the brush roll in "gentle" mode for delicate carpets!

In Europe, you would have seen this belt-free technology in the Panasonic "Icon" vacs. Here is a clip:
