Kenmore LG made canister hose ripping

Hose is discontinued. It’s cheap plastic and ripping through. I removed the handle and it’s a proprietary molded formed end on the hose that fits into the handle with a built in gasket. I tried crazy gluing with no success. There’s not enough room for duct tape as the rip is too close to the swivel handle. It’s a cute little canister that works great...provided the plastic hose was in tact. I know this machine was likely a “throw away” machine but I hate the idea of chucking it because of the ripped hose. I found the part number and LG has discontinued it and none in stock anywhere. At this point I’m starting to consider some sort of cuff that could be put over the ripped area but I may just have to part with the entire machine.

Any ideas? I hate chucking a working main unit but it’s sorta useless without the hose. it may just be time. Giving it to goodwill would be pointless without the hose I imagine. I guess I could try to sell just the canister alone on eBay but it will likely sit there forever. I’m not one to part things out and I can see that all the parts for it are discontinued. It’s very loud anyway so maybe it’s time for it to go.

I think there is some kind of shrink material you can use to wrap that part of the hose. I don't know what it's called though. I've seen people on here use it to fix cracked hoses. Could maybe paint it gray to match.

Also that machine is more from about 2012-14ish. It's not very old. I remember seeing them for sale around that time.

I say take the hose out of the handle and cut out the rip peice and put in back in the handle problem solve right??
Cut out the bad part and re assemble is what i would do instead of duct tape it or jsut heck it put duct tape loose the sivel action but keep using her up to you cut out the bad part and put handle back or duct tape it .

You want to get rid of this vacuum because an inch of hose needs to be removed?

All you should have to do is press in the 2 or 3 tabs around the wand that hold the hose in place with a flat-head screw driver.

Once removed it should be rather easy to see how you can cut off that inch of hose with a scissors and

reinsert the end back into the wand.

My point exactly cut out the bad part put back together and voila problem solve .

Cutting won’t work

I already disassembled the handle and took a look at the inserted end of the hose, it is a specially formed end that changes from what you see, not just a ribbed hose material that ends and can be shortened and it has a gasket melded into it, etc. if I cut that off and it won’t seal properly and will likely leak worse than what it does now with the split in it. It’s not something where I can just remove the ends and put them on different hose material. I thought I had explained this in my initial post noting the ends were specially formed proprietary ends but maybe some missed that. Those ends are all part of the same piece of plastic that makes up the hose, they are not attached to the hose separately and these ends I’m talking about are not the handle and opposite ends in the picture, they are not visible because they are inside those. I guess if I’m not explaining it week enough I can remove the hose handle again and take a pic of how the hose end changes it’s shape to specifically fit in and seal in the swivel handle. That’s why in order to properly fix the it seems the only way is to replace the hose with an actually part.

I obtained the Vac from goodwill in 2015. It was just the canister and the hose and a crevice tool which mounts to a storage spot down low next to where the cord comes out.

Don’t get me wrong here...I usually like to fix things and keep my Aerus/Electrolux machines going but this doesn’t seem to be repairable and with no replacement part available it may just be toast. I think these manufacturers do this to keep the business of selling new vacs in place. It’s more profitable to sell a replacement entire vac than keep producing parts. All of the parts for this have been discontinued I noticed when I pulled up a full parts list so if anything else goes out on it like the switch, cord reel etc...I’m SOL anyway. It’s basically the definition of “plasticrap”. The lock for the bagless dirt bin broken it I was able to rig that with a screw a few years ago as at that time a replacement part was no longer made either.

yes, I know it's a bagless bad design that way.

Surely it could be converted to bagged.
I bought one of these new in 2010 for $49.99 and didn't care for the bagless part either.

It's just a cute compact vacuum.

If this is a non powered hose, I can say that that hose is not at all unique to Kenmore. It's a 3rd party outsourced part. The entire vacuum is, really. This same canister shell mold was used for about 10 different vacuums at that time, with just cosmetic modifications to the buttons. Even Riccar was guilty too. I suspect reputable companies like Kenmore and Riccar put vacuums out like this just to fill price gaps for their lower range and were not concerned with the dubious quality of the construction.

I have two other canister vacuums from both Dirt Devil and someone called "Premium" and they have the same exact hose. If you can find one of these china pride canisters, or even just a hose on eBay, you can dismantle it and swap your hose out.

However the break is so close to the handle you can just slice it off behind the cut and re-attach the hose without losing but maybe 1-3" of length.
