Kenmore Intuition Canister?

Does anyone know if the Kenmore Intuition canister is going to be discontinued? I notice it's never in the sale ads that I've seen, and it has the older Kenmore swoosh logo on it. There used to be a maroon colored Intuition as well that had the swivel+ Powermate like the red Progressive has, and it was discontinued.

Also, I like the look of the Intuition bagged upright. The blue-green color is nice.

I was going to buy one, but I read so many awful reviews of them, I didn't. I like that switchover power head/floor tool.I was at Sears last night, and they are still really pricey.

The Red colored Intuition was discontinued and rebranded as a Progressive. It is still red in color but has the new bulky hose with awkward attachments of the other 2 Kenmore Progressives- white color and Blueberry. The swivel power head is neat. It does swivel many different ways. The handle is very comfortable. The problem with the machine is the attachments. It's not a standard hose end and only takes the attachments which originally come with the machine. I don't like the upholstery nozzle on it and the dusting brush is too bulky. The crevice tool is wierd and is a P.I.T.A to disconnect and reattach to its storage spot on the base of the handle.

I don't know if Kenmore plans on discontinuing the blue Intuition. Chances are they may very well change the color, update the logo and bring it back with a different model number for that. Kenmore does that with many of their machines quite every years or so. Hence the Lime green and Neon Orange replaced the teal and white and tangerine and white colored models. Exact same features and design of each but different colors, logos, and model number.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THE BLUE INTUITION. My newest house cleaning client bought 3 of those machines a few years ago. On all 3 of them the bare floor brush wheels are broken. So using the permanently built in and attached bare floor brush at the end of the wands now no longer works because they scrape across the floor. Also the barefloor brush design is extremely skimpy on bristles and does a junky job anyway. The connection for attaching the barefloor brush into that powerhead is broken on 2 of her machines. It will not stay locked into the power head. Overall that power head is quite bulky and doesn't seal well to the floor and because of its awkward connection with the wands, it doesn't do well once you bend the wand down to about 1.5' off the floor for getting under things. Overall this a machine designed for consumers in a rush looking to clean quickly. It's suction power is good but carpet and bare floor cleaning are only mediocre in my opinion and experience with SEVERAL other vacuums over the years. If you want a machine that does a great job cleaning bare floors and great job cleaning carpets then this IS NOT THE UNIT.

Save your money and get a Panasonic instead at about half the price of the blue Intuition. Or get the Royal Lexon SR30020!

Here is the link to Sears for the red Progressive. You can see that it is the swivel power nozzle and bulky hose handle. If this handle had a universal attachment hook up it would be an awesome vacuum. The hose handle on this although bulky is VERY COMFORTABLE in hand. Although the Royal LEXON SR30020 posted above also has a wonderful hand grip. I love the power nozzle on the Royal as well.

If you look to Panasonic, here is the MCCG917. It's reasonable priced, universal attachment capable. OptiFlo technology supposed to help maintain suction as bag fills, quiet technology, includes turbine powered hand tool, will accept the motorized Kenmore PowerMate Jr. tool. Nice neon green highlights, telescoping wands.

Rob, I actually have the red Progressive myself! It's a nice vacuum, but I agree the attachments aren't the best. The crevice tool has vents on the sides that divert most of the suction away from the end, so it won't suck up much of anything. The dusting brush has horsehair bristles and works okay, but it's too bulky to fit in a lot of places.

That's my only complaint for the red one really!!

Yeah, I think if they had that hose grip to allow to fit universal tools, especially the original style Kenmore tool set then the red machine is practically perfect. I've heard people that don't like the swivel. I think its kinda neat. It takes getting used to but its VERY maneuverable and does a good job cleaning. Powerful suction and powerful power nozzle motor. I do wish the agitator bristles were a little longer. The motors on these are very quiet.

I like the rubber coated wheels for suction unit and power head. Also the powerhead wheels are inside from the end a little so they shouldn't break off the axle the way their other power heads do.

I don't like anything about the power head on the blue Intuition. The suction unit is nice, it's quiet, the hose controls are easy, the Powermate Jr. does good on low profile carpeting and upholstery, the dusting brush is good. The blinds tool is too awkward. Haven't had luck with that and the upholstery nozzle is a joke. I wish manufacturers stopped worrying about costs for the upholstery nozzle and dusting tool, just make 2 different tools. I haven't found any manufacturer who makes a good combo tool!!!

My Blue Intuition

Is still new in the box. I also bought a Blueberry (purple) progressive. That one is still in the box too. I don't think I will ever like that blue one's power nozzle design with the removable floor brush. I have the other Burgandy Intuition that I got from my friend Ben (Massage Miracle) and I love it but not to sure about the new one..

I don't know about the burning wires on the blue Kenmore Progressive nozzle Quick Disconnect. However what will happen is that the entire connection will break and you won't be able to relock the barefloor brush with wands back into the power nozzle. So I guess its even a worse situation on this machine. Also the tiny wheels on the back of the bare floor brush will break so the brush will scrape the floors rather than glide and wheel over them.

The model number for the entire power head on Sears parts is 116.58014. To fix the broken wheels you have to disassemble the removable bare floor brush head and replace the brush base and wheel assembly listed at: $46.43. But that part probably won't fix the connection. If you had to replace the bare floor brush assembly it is $107.99.

Keep in mind that bare floor bristle set up on this is poor. Not a good bare floor brush in my mind and considering these replacement part costs, its a real rip off.

If you really want a Kenmore bagged PN canister, I recommend the Orange model. The Lime Green model is discontinued.

Your safest bet for a basic power nozzle canister is the red Panasonic clone of the old Kenmore Progressive - I think it is model 902. The hose handle is identical to the Kenmore version and will therefore take a Kenmore powermate junior if Sears sells them separately. This may be a more reliable machine than the Kenmore version. The red Panasonic is very good at everything and is a tried and true design with a classic set of 4 separate attachments all stored on board.

My preference is always for 2 vacs - an upright and a canister. My current favourite team is the Hoover Platinum bagged lightweight upright combined with a Miele Olympus. If you don't like Miele׳s mini turbo nozzle, splurge and get the Hoover Platinum cordless handvac - it's got a rotating brush!

As much as I LOVE Kenmore canisters

I will never trust them to work more than two years (give or take)

Even when I took extremely good care of it as I do all of my stuff, it STILL will short out in those connections. Either the handle connection to the wand, or the wand to the PN. The quick disconnect is an AWESOME feature, but if you want to avoid this, make sure you get a model that doesn't have quick disconnect. I wasn't sure if this same applied for the Intuition because it's styled differently.

Instead of getting a Kenmore, I went with an Epic 6500 hoping to avoid this. It has quick disconnect, but it's a much better made machine. I got it off Ebay and like it a lot. I've had it a year and a half. Hopefully it won't short out. If it does.....GRRRRR

Get a second set of wands with bare floor brush.

If you're going to constantly change between bare floors and rugs, you're better off investing about another $30 and getting yourself a set of plain wands plastic or metal with a universal bare floor brush. For the brush I definitely recommend new. I got a brand new universal 11" bare floor brush from my vac shop for $11. Wands you could do plastic or metal and get off eBay, used or new from your local vac shop.

This is a much safer bet than constantly using the quick disconnect. What happens with many is even though its generally a spring metal button on the wands its a plastic connector inside that locks it in. All this extra disconnection and reconnecting weakens that connection so the the wand and power head weaken there fit over time, adding to burned plastic and wires. This along with not all of the power fully shut off to wands occasionally if its not turned off before disconnecting.

Definitely turn the POWER to the PN OFF before disconnecting........But even that doesn't work after a while. They still short out.

My mother has a 1999 Whispertone with Quick Release. The PN started working intermittently and I found it was caused by a broken tab that was supposed to be holding the PN cord outlet at the handle. She got another one and it's been fine so far. I've never seen one shorted out at the PN end, but I've been careful to shut off the PN as you say. I'm wondering if it's better to shut the whole vacuum off when doing this or okay to just turn off the PN.

Shutting the entire vacuum off before disconnecting quick release is absolutely better!!

Should be careful with any vacuum that uses quick disconnect. It's a great convenient feature but with any feature added to a vacuum cleaner, it's also another thing to break and go wrong over time!!

I never noticed anything at the handle that was broken where the handle connects to the wand. This happened with two Kenmore canisters. Admittedly, In the two or so years I had them, I used the HE!! out of them, always turning the PN power off before connecting/disconnecting......

I wonder about my Epic 6500 and the quick disconnect.......and so far so good. I'm hoping that the connections are better.

I know the new Black Rainbow has quick disconnect. I wonder if that will have issues in the future?

In addition anyone who read the Sunday paper for this week may have noticed that the blue Intuition canister vacuum was on sale, I believe for $399. Still at that price I would recommend something else.

Look to the Panasonic MCCG917. It has variable speed suction, headlight equipped power nozzle, quiet technology, same tool set as Intuition with exception to the blinds tool, which personally I find awkward to use. It also has telescopic wand and air turbine powered hand tool. It can be found on the internet for a bargain price and because it uses a Kenmore style hose handle, a Kenmore or Panasonic branded electric Powermate Jr. will also work on it.

The Panasonic MCCG917 looks really cool with its green and the power nozzle will far outlast that of the Kenmore Intuition. I have no doubts that the Panasonic will be dramatically easier to use cleaning carpet or bare floors in addition to cleaning better!!
