There was talk of a bagless kenmore that looked like an electrolux months ago. It was made by electrolux, and so was the canister version. the kenmore upright you guys were reffering to was the "SEARS KENMORE CYCLONIC CLEANING SYSTEM". They came out in the us around 2001, and did not sell well, not to mention the lousy rating in consumer reports. I was given a promotional video for this vacuum, from the sears saleslady in 2002, and I beleive that was the last year for these vacuums. I've seen three in my life time. I also have a promotional video for the progressive bagged. Here is the picture:

I sold those in 2001/2... well, didn't sell them actually, because NOBODY bought them. The dirt cup fell out, the hose dangled on the floor, the attachments didn't stay on, and I personally thought it was ugly. Cheap, cheap cheap! Not to mention, a it was a heavy beast. The handle release pedal was even flimsy... The dirt chamber was like that from a Eureka Whirlwind, and the rest of it was like that Electrolux Aptitude.... I did like the handle and slide switch...

The original version of this machine is a bagged upright made by Electrolux in the UK for Europe. A 120volt version was then brought into North America as a light blue Eureka Oxygen upright. When Electrolux bought back the rights to use its name on vacs they sell in North America the blue Eureka Oxygen Upright was relabelled as an orange Electrolux Aptitude upright. Sears then contracted Electrolux to make a bagless Kenmore version for them which basically slapped a Eureka Whirlwind dust container onto an Aptitude's body.

Correction! Bobby says he sold these Kenmores at Sears in 2001, so this probably happened before the Aptitude showed up in North American stores. This Bagless Kenmore made by Electrolux was probably being sold at the same time the bagged Eureka Oxygen Upright was on the market.

When I read your first response, I thought, oh no, that can't be right because the bagless monstrosity definitely preceded the Aptitude :o)

Hey Bobby - I always love your posts, especially those relating to your time at Sears. Lots of my "contemporary" vac memories come from my obsessive visits to the vac displays in department and big box stores, and your experience at Sears really helps me to clarify a foggy memory sometimes!

Here in Toronto, I remember the first appearance of real live Swedish Electroluxes happened at Sears in 2007 or 2008 or maybe a year before that . Their stores all displayed a line-up of orange vacs using the real European Electrolux symbol: Harmony canister, Oxygen Power Nozzle canister, Aptitude upright, and I think an Ergorapido stick vac and hand vac.

Can anyone furnish a model number for one of the Kenmore machines under discussion?

The introduction of information re. later Eureka/Electrolux uprights has me confused, so I'll post a couple of pictures on a new post.

<span style="font-family: georgia, palatino;">The Kenmore Cyclonic was made around 1999-2002; they used the same style dirt cup & cyclonic chamber as the 1st-generation Eureka WhirlWhind</span>

That blue canister, which I have, is actually dual cyclonic having the chambers stacked one on top of the other, but it seems less efficient by design than the more traditional setup. It was made by elextrolux, in sweden if I recall.

It's funny I'm reviving an outdated post. That Kenmore cyclonic canister looks odd. I bet these machines got done for due to Dyson's popularity, correct?

The Kenmore bagless

cyclonic canister was made in Sweden by Electrolux. Power head by Eureka. Also marketed by Eureka as the second modern vac to have the name Whirlwind.
In Europe, it was the Electrolux Cyclone Power. Single stage fan motor, while the bagged Oxygen series had a two stage fan motor.
