My circa '65 Kenmore central vac inlets are the type with a copper strip as an on/off button. The contacts have gone bad and inlets of this type aren't available any more...unless someone knows of a stash somewhere that I can access, or has found a good workaround for replacing these inlets. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Vacuumland!

Go the the website builtinvacuum.com or MD Central Vacuum and they have a guide to replacing Sears inlets with modern inlets! Hope this helps!

If it's just the contact strip that's no longer working, you could simply disconnect the low voltage wire from the port and put a simple push button switch on the wire that could be mounted next to the port.

Unfortunately, Sears CV products were sub-par compared to the industry standard.  The pipes were quite small compared to todays 2" CV lines.

Fortunately, new CV ports and piping is inexpensive if you want to replace it yourself.

Best of luck to you.
