This vacuum has two wand sections. The light & brush on the floor tool work when the cord is connected directly from floor tool to handle with lower wand section connected to floor tool and cord is connected to handle, but not when top wand section is part of the configuration. The plastic piece at the top of the top wand section has only a "sleeve" that the cord passes through and locks in place. The prongs on the cord end do connect with the receptacle on the handle when the top section is used.

This issue first started out to be intermittent and was related to increasing play in the connection of the wand sections. Just before the light/brush stopped working, they would work when pushing the floor tool forward and stop working when the floor tool was pulled back toward me (obviously a connection being broken, but where ... ? )

Does this issue sound familiar to anyone? Have a resolution? Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Oh my grandparents have the same canister...with the same problem! Try putting a little more slack on the cord in the top section and push the plug for the power head up. Worked on theirs. Good luck!

It seems as if your receptacle on the handle is worn. This actually will happen with a machine that has a lot of excessive use on it . If you would please post a pic of the prongs on the cord and an "as best as you can" pic of the receptacle for both ends of the machine. I.e. Hose receptacle , wand prongs and receptacle and PN prongs.

A visual would be a better form for diagnosis.

Hi, we had this same issue happen on my mom's Kenmore canister. What I found is if you take the two sections of the plastic hose handle apart, is that there are tabs that hold the receptacle that takes the plug from the wand in place. If those tabs break off, then the receptacle moves up and down when you push and pull on the handle as you vacuum. This makes the light and brush turn on/off as you are experiencing.

I pushed the receptacle all the way down to where it should be and superglued it into place. After it dried and I put everything back together the problem went away.

There may be a more permanent solution to the issue, but it worked for me, and if it breaks again I can reglue it.

Hopefully this helps.
