I just picked up a Kenmore Commercial upright at the local Salvation Army. Its in great shape and has some tools. I'm not sure who made this for Kenmore. Whirlpool maybe? One interesting thing is the pigtail cord. I guess they figured you would need an extension cord anyways, so why not just provide a pigtail. I've seen this on a Singer Shop Vac as well. Anyways, this Kenmore runs great. Just a little doggie smell when you fire it up, but that should go away in time.

Here are some pics.

Boy, my typing is sad sometimes

i didnt realise anything was wrong till you mentioned it! lol

Kenmore

Joe that was made by Whirlpool, I've never seen that patricular version, but I would guess thats an early 90's model.
Decent vacuum, a loose copy of the Hoover Concept One. I like the way the tools connect, and it has decent tool suction too.
I've had a couple of them come and go, and I currently have a pretty nice household version.
Nice find!

Thanks Jeff,

That vacuum has really grown on me in the last 24 hours. It has not been used commercially either. There was a Sears sales slip in the plastic bag that had the tools in it. The signature on the slip looked like an older person's writing. I'm thinking it was well cared for.

You compared it to a Concept, it even kinda sounds like one. Yes, tool suction is pretty good.

Glad to see you back posting. I understand I'll be seeing you in a month or so. Should be a fun time.

This is the model made by Panasonic if I remember correctly? I believe a vac seen in another thread, but domestic, looked just like this and it was stated as being Panasonic built.

As any enlightened man knows, thats a good thing ;]

Panasonic made

Kenmore vacuums, still do today for the most part.
I believe Whirlpool sold their vacuum business off to Panasonic sometime in the 1990's.

Joe's Kenmore Commercial is definately Whirlpool made.

Joe whats the date on the reciept?

Rare in Red?

I've had a couple of the black versions of this model, but have never seen one in red. It might be that yours is toward the end of that model production, especially with the short cord/plug. I know that there are some today that use that cord setup, great idea, just hook up a 50-100ft. of commercial cord and go. Really nice looking machine in red, congratulations on a great find!

Reciept

The reciept is for bags and not the machine. Too bad, I would have liked to see what this machine went for new.

All in all its a well cared for machine that runs great. I'm glad to have it in my collection. To think, I almost let it go. I bought it after walking by it at least 5 times.

new

Those were in the $200+ range, which in the late 80's was not bad for what you got. The cleaner is well made, has a good brush roll, and good airflow.

I don't care for the floating nozzle, and they can be LOUD!

Like Rick, I too have had a couple of the black versions come and go, but have never seen this version before. Rick is probably right about it being towards the end of the run.

I do have the brochures for the Whirlpool versions of these. If I remember right, they were introduced in 1985. Sears had them about 1988.

Floating Nozzles

Jeff,

I know you don't like floating nozzles. That was the one thing you disliked about the Panasonics. My model V6965 Panasonic (red/green dirt lights) has the floating nozzle and it does jump and skip on the carpet if you pull back too fast. But it does clean well and is quiet. Its the only vac my wife will use. Getting off topic..........

$200 new for that Kenmore isn't bad. I'll have a better opinion of it once I use it for a while. Need to get a 25ft extension to run it in the house. All my extensions are in use for the baby chick brooders right now.

Thanks for the info.

household version

same basic styling as Joe's, but maroon base with black handle and I believe a maroon bag(its a little buried under a pile of crap in my workroom now)
I'll get a couple of pics later in the week, I'm off to the BF's tonight for the holiday.
