I just bought this Hoover Convertible model 70 on eBay and am trying to date it. What is the best way to determine that manufacture date? It has an all metal base and the real metal Hoover insignia. This sucker is solid! I am having an issue that I would appreciate some help with though. It seems to have excellent suction but the brushroll seems like it is easily stopped. I did replace the belt. Any suggestions for me? Thanks a bunch!

Brushroll being stopped easily sounds like a stretched/worn belt. Hoover 49258, probably better buying genuine hoover than offbrand ones, I got some bad offbrand ones that broke easily.

It should look like this

I have a model 70 and it should look like this. Someone has painted the one you bought....

I am not too concerned with the ascetics of the vacuum because I actually intend to use this machine. I did grease the lower bearing and clean under the fan (thanks to Hoover 1060 for posting that procedure). I figured that the bag had been replaced because it doesn't look very tidy at the bottom. I mostly wanted a cleaner made of metal that has easily replaceable modular parts. I don't think that the belt I purchased is genuine. I think I will look for one today. Thanks for the advice.
