Just bought a Royal 880

I dont have any videos..yet. its too late to run it without waking everyone up. It runs good though but needs a brushroll. the bristles are nice and long but the bearing cap at one end is slightly crooked so it gets hot. I was also right about it missing the deodorizer cover, but thats not a huge deal. The bag and cord are dare I say perfect which I am very happy about, not much oxidation on the metal either. The adjust-o-rite has a very minor dent where the "handle" thing is, Im guessing thats pretty common and also non issue. Overall its a great machine, I couldnt be much happier with it

Nick,

Several brush rolls were available for the 4.5 amp Royal machines:
#2059721000 - single row w/ sleeve bearings
#2060221000 - beater bar w/ sleeve bearings (NLA)
#2080221000 - double row w/ sleeve bearings (no stiffener) (NLA)
#2675221000 - double row w/ ball bearings (no stiffener)

Belts
#1043260001 - for 5.4 amp and lower machines w/ sleeve bearing brush rolls
#1044260001 - for 4.5 amp and higher machines - is also the only recommended belt for the ball bearing brush rolls

Ben,

Is the belt for ball bearing brushrolls the knurled belt, or is that a different belt altogether?

Thats why my 801 belt doesnt seem tight enough!! The vacuum shop sold me the smooth belt for ball bearing brushrolls. I noticed my 880 belt is alot more difficult to get on

Nick,

To make myself clearer on my lists...

#2080221000 - double row w/ sleeve bearings (no stiffener) (NLA) (not for machines rated less than 4.5 amps)
#2088221000 - like #2080221000 but also w/ stiffener (NLA) (for 6.0 and 7.0 amp machines)
#2675221000 - double row w/ ball bearings (no stiffener) (not for machines rated less than 5.4 amps)

why are ball bearings not to be used on motors less than 5.4 amps? Also, since you are so knowledgeable in royals, would you be able to help me finding bearings for my 801? I believe they are getting worn out. lately I can hear sort of a ringing sound from the motor. its very faint, but I know my machine and it wasnt there before. The motor shaft has about 3/16" in-out play in it, which im sure is not great news. But it still works good, just makes me worried. I want to be able to rebuild this motor when the bearings go, so it will be around another 50 years.

Do you think they could do the work too? haha I dont think im qualified for bearings as skilled as I am. I really want to avoid swapping the motor even though it would be way cheaper/easier

WOW!

I just vacuumed the house with my new stark 880 and all I can say is wow! What a difference that extra 1.5 amps makes! You can hear the rush of air coming from the nozzle; and unlike my 801, the 880 sucks the adjust o rite button in with ease. Its also MUCH easier to push, due to the extra brushroll action and now things really do dance on the carpet.

I'm really impressed with the difference 1.5 amps makes. If going to 4.5 made that big of difference, I couldnt imagine the new 10 amp royals. They must literally suck the carpet off the floor. I MUST now get a 7 amp Royal 9100 Preferred..

Ben, I got a question for you. The belt for for sleeze bearing brushrolls is different that ball bearing brushrolls right? I want to know what is the difference? Is the ball bearing belt (1044260001) ever so slightly longer than the sleeve bearing belt (1043260001)? I ask this because the belt that came on my 880 is slightly harder to get on than the belt I bought for my 801 at the vac shop. The guy at the vac shop had no clue and said this was the only non knurled royal belt they had, it fit fine so I bought it, but It doesnt have a part # on it so I'm not sure if its correct.

Nick,

If you were to send your thoughts to TTI about your machines, I am pretty sure they will agree with me.

In the meantime, if you scroll down to page A58 in the link below, you will explicitly see that all of the ball-bearing-equipped brush rolls, those with the square ends, are only to be used with belt #1044260001.

I wasnt suggesting I am trying to run a belt other than stock, I was wondering if you knew what the differences between the two belts was? I stongly believe the vac shop sold me the belt for ball bearing brushrolls. This would work out good because my new bb brushroll is coming soon, so I'll use that belt with the new brush and the correct sleeve bearing belt that came with the 880 on the 801, which has sleeve bearings
