Picked her up thrifting today to replace the other 80's Hoover that we killed sucking up pet hair. Hoping this one last longer. I like the power switch on the handle!

OMG! What a sight on that, that's a first! How did you manage to balance that?

Also I don't believe it either but you have the same cabinets I used to have in my kitchen before they were DIY-refaced. The handle part used to always come loose and as a kid I would sit on the floor and spin them around.

Nice Convertible. I found a similar one in the dump at the trailer park, a power surge model.

Nice!

I just picked up a JCPenney-branded Hoover Convertible. I saw it at a Goodwill back in January and decided to skip it because I'd already acquired a Sentria and a Royal 884. It's amazing how quickly one may fall down into the rabbit hole of collecting things and I didn't want to go too far because my wife does not care for anachronistic items, lol, and heck, I ended 2018 with just one solitary vacuum, my SC886 Sanitaire.

Well, two days ago I walked into this same Goodwill almost two months later and it was still there, along with a Heritage II Legend ahich I grabbed at $10 (I gotta stop this!!! I'm drawing the line today, lol). I figured for $4 for the JCPenney, it was better off in my hands than in the garbage, which is where it was probably going to end up if nobody bought it and its time on the floor had to have been coming to an end since (I'm assuming) thrift stores need pretty high turnover to make room for the new items and it was there for at least the early part of January. It would be quite a shame because it is in great shape for its age. It's really clean, the vinyl bag is in very good condition and the brushroll literally looks brand new. It's tied up in a plastic bag until I get around to cleaning/polishing/sanitizing it.

My wife does not know about my two latest finds yet (eek) but I am buying her a brand new Dyson Cinetic upright for her bday, since she has always wanted a Dyson (though I do not). I figure a shiny new Dyson will buy me a "license" to collect, lol, even though it will cost me more than my Sentria, 884, Avalir, JCPenney and Heritage II Legend **combined** INCLUDING all the wear parts like brushrolls, motor brushes, trim, fans, belts, etc. and little things I have bought for these vacs like polish, sandpaper, buff pads and steel wool, but oh well, lol. A happy wife is a happy life and I have to admit that I am sorta interested on just how well the Dyson stacks up to my mighty direct-air uprights.

Kind of OT: What kind of range do you have in your kitchen, in the second picture? I'm not really familiar with ranges all that much, but this looks like something I haven't seen before. Are you into vintage kitchens?

Huskyvacs: I buffered it on one side with a rake and on the other side with a hoe, then tied it all together with bungee cords and prayed, lol! I've brought all sorts of things home on that bike. Vacuums, sewing machines, small pieces of furniture.. I really need to invest in a little trailer for it.

Superocd: it is a Hotpoint stove. My b/f was disappointed that it wasn't a gas stove when we moved in, but so far I have managed to keep him from replacing it (and our beautiful orange laminate countertops). I love our 1970's kitchen! I try to keep as much stuff era-appropriate in the house as I can get away with.

The handles on those cabinets come loose all the time and spin around. They are in the bathrooms, too.

Nice score on those vacs.

On the loose cabinet handles/drawer pulls etc. you might try using little washers on the back side to take up slack where you screw them in. If that's where they are loose. Just a thought.70's kitchens were fun I thought, but today's decorators look back and say "what were they thinking?"Oooops! back to vacuums, lol! Billy

I think if I ever get into vintage kitchens down the road, I am going to go for a 90s theme. Oak cabinets, bisque appliances, soffits over the cabinets, recessed and track lighting, Corian countertops with tile backsplashes, a desk area to read recipes.

bisque appliances

I like bisque appliances. They used to call it 'almond' back in the late '70s and early '80s when it first appeared. It's a little warmer than stark white and doesn't show dirt as bad, either. I had a girlfriend about 15 years ago (my, how time flies) who redid her kitchen with bisque appliances. It was a real hodge-podge when she moved into the house--bisque fridge, stainless sink, black dishwasher, white range hood and my personal favorite, avocado Frigidaire drop-in range. My guess all the appliances had originally been avocado when the house was built in 1967.

She wanted a gas range and found one brand new at Habitat ReStore in bisque and decided to key everything in on that color. We both had GE dishwashers with interchangeable color panels, so I installed my almond one on hers and took her black one home. She changed out the stainless sink for a bisque one and put in a bisque over-the-range microwave in place of the old range hood. The tired looking mid '60s gold flecked white Formica countertops got changed out for slate gray and accented with a coordinating rustic tile backsplash for a nice, cost-effective makeover.

The fur from our pet rabbits is VERY hard on vacuums. It burnt up my last hoover, burnt up a dirt devil before that, and almost burn up one of my kirbys!

I wonder if that is because it is so short and tiny it gets past the cracks and crevices in the housing and gets into the motor? Other than that I don't know. I've only seen rabbits at the fair or pet store, lol I have a Husky and I've never had vacuums die from fur ingestion.

Rabbit fur is very fine, worse than husky undercoat. It won't look like much, but once the vacuum sucks it up the fur expands and gets into everything.

Hey

Your bike is rocking a radio. I'm impressed with balancing act.
The vacuum is nice. I'd use your Kirby classic and suck up the whole rabbit. I imagine that would fix that but the rabbit would probably get through the bag just because it can.
The kitchens um don't use white the grout on white tile never looks clean. The taste in cabinets and decor not my cup of tea. My wife buys my clothes because she says I have bad tapste and dressed funny. I am probably not one for fashion or design instructions.
