Here was a nice find of the day! I have 2 of them. One has a bad motor and the other is almost like new (see pic) the machine is realitively powerful and seems to be very durable. If anyone happens to know what rebadged machine this is info would be great.
Oh I need one of those to vacuum up the many acorns my oak trees have dropped all over the yard this year. I just got a new Redmax EBZ8500 backpack blower which packs a big punch but left them scattered everywhere. That JD vacuum will go nicely with my JD lawn mower w/side discharge & mulching capabilities. Oh jeez I sound lke the bucket woman!!!
We had a machine that looked a lot! like that at the quick lube, It was European I recall, strong, pricy, bagged. I want to call it a Waap, or Wapp.Looks like, maybe??
With that hose connector on the canister, I think it's most likely the John Deere vacuum was made by Ghibli in Italy. That connector is on most of their commercial wet-dry machines.
It was definitely pricey, I believe $378 and for that price it does run strong! I have taken the other one apart and from the looks of the motor it is an Ametek 2 stage bypass. Once I have my variac in front of me I'll check it out and see what is wrong with it.
The canister shape is almost identical to some shop vacs by Mi-T-M.
Notice the dimples on the top, and the latches on the sides.
The hose connector appears different however.
It does look similar to that! I will say that it is a decent quality machine and the feel to it is strong in terms of construction and it seems to filter pretty well. I look forward to using it for the years to come but I will guarantee that it will never be my daily go to.
John Deere states this model has a two-stage blower motor.
That is vastly better than the standard consumer shop vacuums with their cheap disposable motors.
Probably made by a Chinese company, does it state anywhere the COO? (country of origin)
It is still on their website, just google it.
Here are the specs:
John DeereAC-9 9-Gallon Wet/Dry Vacuum
Two-stage blower motor for longer life
Self-cooling motor design
Quiet operation
Exhaust air ducting reduces the possibility of motor contamination by dirt or moisture
Electrical cord wrap
25-ft. electrical cord
Electrical system is double-protected by enclosure-within-enclosure
Honestly I didn't look for the C O O, the motor inside is a 2 stage bypass looks to be a lamb motor, very quiet too. I'll snap a shot of the dead motor when I get home as it is definitely a quality motor. It actually looks like a bissell big green motor. Thursday I'm going to be grabbing another motor from a friend and installing it unless I can fix the original one.
The carbons are at their full length and not sticking and the commutator doesn't look bad at all so it could be the outer field coil.
If it is an Ametek Lamb motor, you can look it up on their website.
Motors are inexpensive when they don't have "fits an Electrolux or TriStar" on the ebay listings. Know what you are looking for, and do some homework.
I'm going to throw a central vac motor in it since it will fit. But before I do that I'm taking it to my shop and I'll check it out tomorrow morning. I work on motors on a daily basis so I hope that it is something as simple as a switch as the second machine I want to gift to a good friend of mine.
