Jet99 and SuperChief restoration pics

Just Curious, Rick-

What was the seller's description of that Jet 99? Did it give you a clue about the rust? It certainly looks like you brought that one back from the dead!

That was a new Lux......

hose that I put Universal ends on. That 115 looks Great!!! What I have done as far as paint goes is to have it mixed. Then I shoot it with a sprayer. I've got a compressor and sprayer set up from when I used to refinish pianos. Sandy, to be quite honest, the seller of the Jet99 was really up front about the condition of the machine. They said they had no attachments, didn't know if it ran, and looked as if it could only be used for parts. But you know what? When I received it, I plugged it in and the damn thing ran!!! filled my whole garage with orange smoke. I got ahead of myself on the paint thing...the SuperChief (that I bought for parts to use on the Jet) has an automotive touch-up paint on it that I have applied about four additional coats of clear on top of two coats of base color, on top of rust-preventive primer. As far as future projects, I got about three going on. I'll post some other finished stuff later tonight. Thanks for the compliments...Rick

Well, that's great. When I saw the photo of the machine at the top of the page, it looked so decent, I wondered if it was one of those deals where the seller said, "Looks like it's in great condition. I have not tested it; I'll leave that up to you." You know the kind of eBay description I mean. So, at least you walked into this one with both eyes open- and you made something terrific and rare out of it.

BTW, nice job using the Lux hose as a replacement. It actually looks very good, since so many early '50s hoses were grey.

Rick, Nice work. Have you ever thought of using your talents to move beyond restoration and trying a little customization? What I like about this old sheet metal is that you can have the same fun and creativity my brother and I had in the body shop in the 60's working on cars except the scope is so much more manageable with old appliances, it is less work, and one "show and tell piece" doesn't take up a whole garage.

You keep on astounding me with the beauty of your restorations!!

BTW, I have not yet found the hammertone finish that I like (or that matches!). I might have to just settle with another green similar to it. I did get the base part of the A-W 77 primed, though! I am keeping the middle not primed as that will be my color comparison! Keep up the AWESOME work!
