Jamie, I remember a thread that was up a week or two back and you metioned that your "1994 HOOVER Turbopower 1000 U2812" can stretch up a full flight of stairs, which is typically 13 steps and the Chris (Turbo500) said that it wouldn't and that was the whole reason they introduced the Turbopower 3 which is correct.

You said that you would post a picture of your 1000 doing just that, I have been waiting patiently for you to do so, so I thought I would start a thread in hope of you doing so...

Here is my 1993 Hoover Turbopower 1000 which had the hose that every other Turbopower 2, which is basically what the 1000 is, had. As you can see I am over stretching the hose as the cleaner is leaning towards the stairs at an angle and it will only get up to the 9th step.

Turbo 3 was introduced cause it had full Stairclening

As you can see, I have 12 steps and the 13th step accounts for the landing and it easily reaches to 13 stairs, as Hoover did address, and I am not over stretching it because as you can see, the machine is still stood upright at the bottom of the stairs.

I had to get my mum to hold the hose there while I took the picture, because when I tried to do it myself, I just could not get it all in frame! Lol.

This is how far the Turbopower 3 hose will stretch up the stairs, you can get 14 stairs if you really over strecth the hose like this, and then the cleaner will lean towards the stairs at the bottom at an angle, because of how hard I had to stretch it.

Just another close up so you can see what it looks like when you stretch it up to the reccomended 13 stairs it is supposed to each to, again it easily stretches up these.

So I think it is safe to say.

The 1000 does not stretch to the top of 13 staris and the Turbopower 3 does, which is why it came out!

As you can see, this is a follow up from the previous picture, stretched up to 13 stairs in is still comfortabley standing upright there at the bottom of the stairs at 90 degrees.

Thank you for reminding me Alex - I completely forgot about that.

As you rightly showed, the standard hose will not reach up 13 stairs, however it does reach up my 9 stairs (I have three large "platform" steps before the flight of stairs starts).

Don't forget you have more reach if you have the scabbard crevice tool attached, provided your TP model has that in addition.

However, I recall using the mini turbo brush tool when they were on sale at Argos and they didn't move very well when the hose was fully extended.

"Don't forget you have more reach if you have the scabbard crevice tool attached, provided your TP model has that in addition." Good point, I never thought of that.

You might get a longer reach but when you put the upholstory tool on to clean the step, you have to have the tool flat against the step, obviously, so you probably won't reach much further than 9 steps even with the wand, long crevice tool and upholstory tool, because of the tight angle, you will probably only get 10 stairs max.

Also, lets not forget though that just because you can get up your stair case, not all stair cases and steps are the same. It's all very well claiming what a hose on the back of an upright can do - so much easier just with a cylinder ON a step or in your hand and either clean "as you go" or stretch out a far better designed hose that won't pull back with the force of suction.

But Ryan...

You will either get 13 STANDARD steps cleaned with the Turbopower 3 or maybe one or two more if your stairs has slightly narrower steps than the average, but on a "normal" set of stairs you should get 13 every time.

Alex, Jamie & Ryan....

Reading this thread, this makes me wonder....have there ever been any upright vacuums in the UK or anywhere in Europe that offer additional extension hoses? We have had a few here in North America, & have been rather convenient to use on cleaning tasks such as cleaning stairs & using to clean cars.

Rob

Many manufactures have made them for their own cleaners. Hoover did so for it's Turbomaster, Electrloux did for it's Widetrack, and Dyson & Sebo still do so. Although some hoses will fit other cleaners, they've only been sold to fit the brand they were made by.

However, have seen some universal hoses in those home-cleaning catalouges which one sometimes gets sent by a local distributor.
