I just did it today at a poundshop for 40 euro. It needs a bit of work and the manual plu small brushes are missing. I do not know wich type it is only that it is a dc08. What do i need to make it complete ( parket, origin, animal ) I realy have no idea. thanks

DC08 Origin/Allergy?

Hi Edgar,

Jack will be able to tell you more, but if Dyson used the same colour schemes in Belgium as in the UK this is one of the later DC08's. Possibly has a replacement cyclone unit as the buttons are yellow and don't match the trim on the cleaner and floortool.

In the UK this was the entry level cylinder at the time, so just needs the 3 small tools (dusting brush, stair tool, crevice tool) on a hose clip to complete. Basically replaced the earlier steel/yellow cleaner shown below. I have noticed Dyson often include a hard floor/parquet tool with their cleaners in Europe.

I use a purple and lime DC08 as my main cleaner, personally a fan of them as a good basic vacuum. Rescued mine as scrap- broken cord winder, burnt out motor, clogged cyclone- but still salvageable!

Looks like yours could just do with a quick clean up- wash the bin and pre-motor filter. Brush out the shroud and cyclone unit and vacuum it with another cleaner..it can be disassembled and washed out if really required. Check the filter under the bin too- cover just unclips.

But i do think i need to wash the cyclone thing it is realy dirty. the manual says I should not do that. but i give it a try. Can you take it apart somehow seems realy stuck to me.

Cyclone disassembly

Its a few months since I cleaned mine out, but these are approximate steps on how to do it..take pics as you go along to aid reassembly!

Pull off the plastic 'funnel' section from the bottom of cyclone unit- it just friction fits into place. May take a little force. This should expose 3/ maybe 4? torx screws on the underside of the cyclone assembly. May need to dig out the fine dust first to see them if its very dirty!

From there it should be reasonably self evident, there should be another set of screws from the underside once the next plastic moulding is removed.

Finally there are 3 on top, one hidden..remove the two screws holding the handle onto the cyclone manifold. The handle should then slide towards the front (e.g. towards the bin emptying button direction)- this will expose the final screw.

Once you have it separated out into all components, wash them- I find biological washing powder really good for this, and scrub with a soft brush. Rinse well, dry, reassemble..and vacuum!

Let us know how you get on. I always like to get my vacuums as 'like-new' as possible, even if I'm just going to use them daily!

The white cord rewind makes me think it is not the Origin but possibly the DC08 HEPA (Without Turbine) model. Definitely has had the cyclone assembly replaced though.

Out of curiosity what are the three first numbers of the serial number if you don't mind me asking...

Have you tried it? Any thoughts/opinions?

Hi Shanon,
I think it is a HEPA because when I found out how to open the filter thingy there was a brand new Hepa filter??? That was very strange because the rest of it was realy dirty. I think they put the cyclone thing in the water, and then started vacuuming again wen it was still wet. Inside the cyclone it was completely clocked with a mud like sustance.

I have not tried it yet, because everything is still drying. I wil let my friend trie it though because in the five years we are together he only liked 2 cleaners ( a numatic and a Miele). So he is realy difficult.

I found out I need a atachment holder the 3 atachments and a new set of wheels, to make it beautiful again.

I am 99% sure that this is the DC08 HEPA. Thanks for the serial numbers... Its interesting to see a pattern emerging with them...

The HEPA filter may look like the one in the picture... Enjoy

that's exactly the filter that is in it, and I looked and looked on the internet, and sure of it's type. It is a hepa because that is the only type with white buttons over here.

ok, so here are the results,

points are from 1 very bad to 10 verry good.

Suction power and pick up a 9

design a 10 (looks funy he said)

using comfort a 4 ( it tips over the hose is to stiff at the end of the machine wich causes problems moving it around. The handle of the wand looks nice but not nice to hold. When he used a little bit of muscle the wand shored 2 sleeves all by it self. )

The vieuw a 10 it is funny to see all the dust go in

The noise a 6 (its more noice than he is used to)

note: the wand feels not very strong the nozzle works perfectly and is easy to switch carpet/ hard floors. He still thinks it looks fantastic. He missed the small nozzle( I explained it is normaly there) On my question if he wanted me to put it downstairs for normal use, he answered what ever you think is fancy, but not if you want me to vacuum ;-)).

He compared it with a Miele S711 wich is boring to look at in a wrong color and it smelled because of the dustbag he said , but still prefered it to use the miele, also because it's small.

I lett him emptying the dustcan wich he did not have a problem with.
