Yes, I bought an Oreck. I just took on a cleaning job at a Ford dealership, and wanted something light weight and easy to use. My budged was small and ACE hardware had the commercial model for a decent price. The dealership has a great vacuum cleaner "Riccar Upright" but the area to be vacuumed is huge and takes a long time to clean....After getting through with a heavy duty vacuum I'm completely exhausted, "Reason for buying the Oreck." I don't know how long this Oreck will last, but hopefully it will make my routine a bit easier, just have to stock up on belts! Luckily the carpet is low pile commercial.

It's a decent vacuum for low pile carpets and shouldn't go through many belts a lot of the casinos and hotel/motels here in Atlantic City use them on a daily basis the Taj Mahal being one of them and that place is huge .
Bags are cheap in bulk so with proper care it will last you a long time .

I managed a local Oreck store and many cleaning companies use Oreck .

Regardless of the vacuum you use, you may want to look at a better strategy for cleaning. For example, do you push the vacuum primarily with your arms or legs? A prominent vacuum historian, Tom Gasko, recommends "walking" the vacuum with your legs rather than moving it back and forth only with the arm. Can you vacuum slower and use fewer cleaning strokes? I'm sure others have better tips for cleaning large commercial areas efficiently.

You made a great choice!

The Oreck is a fantastic machine for commercial use! I've used one at a community center, and really liked it! They do NOT go through lots of belts. The bags are HUGE, so you hardly have to change them! And I haven't seen a decrease in suction with a full bag.

The only thing I don't like about Oreck vacuums is the noise level. These vacuums are SCREAMERS.

Good idea buying the Oreck for your cleaning job. I can't blame you much if the Riccar upright the dealership had was too heavy to be using for a long time to clean a large area. However, I have never been a fan of these 8 pound uprights. I did own a Oreck years ago, & was considering buying a Simplicity Freedom....however, I found with my Oreck that the bags, although huge, would clog fairly quickly & only about 1/3 full. I think it has something to do with the side-mount direct-air design, I have noticed the same thing with Hoover Elite's & Dirt Devil Featherlites too. That's why I didn't buy a Simplicity Freedom, but who knows maybe someday . Speaking of which, if I was you, I would have gone down to your local vac shop & bought a BOL Simplicity Freedom & used it with a long extension cord, it's brushroll is WAY BETTER than the Oreck XL's brushroll & makes the Oreck look wimpy in comparison.

You can use the Oreck XL CC Hypoallergenic microfiltration bags as well, but you must buy & install the bag dock for them to be compatible with your commercial upright. Also, as for the belts, if you run out & need one immediately, a Rainbow powerhead belt is a perfect substitute for a Oreck belt.

You might actually like the freedom, if you use the HEPA bags they do not clog very quickly, as a matter of fact I had one and believe it to be true that the bag was packed before it slowed down in performance. For a less expensive unit the freedom is the way to go! The oreck isn't a ba unit but the brushes do seem a little wimpy on some carpeting. Other than that very durable, and will last a long time.

Actually, the Freedom is a beast in my opinion. It digs at least as much dirt as any other vacuum I have. It's what, in my opinion, the Orecks should be. Though maybe the newer Orecks have bigger fans and more aggressive brush rolls, not sure.

The brand new Freedom design is a true 'beast' of a vacuum. Redesigned fan, fan case, and motor assembly - plus the redesigned bag system with the self sealing HEPA bags (poof proof) and hard shell bag case, are terrific upgrades from the past design.

We've sold over a thousand of the new Freedom model at the Factory Outlet Store in St. James (over the course of 18 months), and have never had anything other than compliments on it. Even a number of vacuumland members have purchased one - all extolling its virtue. I don't know of any Oreck 8 pound upright model with the power of the new Simplicity Freedom. This also applies to the Riccar SupraLite, as the Freedom and SupraLite are the same designs with different color choices.

I recently sold one of the new generation Riccar supralites to my next door neighbor, it is one of the only uprights I could find that would work on their dense rugs. They also love how light it is and how it seems to propell itself. They have two cats and it rips right through the hair no problem and grooms their rugs beautifully. They are truly terriffic vacuums.


 


I think for the situation you described, your new oreck will serve you well.

For what you will be using it for the Oreck will do well, as this is what it was designed to do.


The Riccar/Simplicity machines are good too, but I will promise you you paid only a portion for the Oreck as you would for one of those.

Vacuumed my house with the Oreck and my ears are bleeding! Why on earth can't they quite these things down some! I guess maybe it's cause I was mostly vacuuming hardwood floors, it seems to be a bit quieter on rugs. THANK GOODNESS.

Well its not as if you weren't warned in reply No.2 regarding noise.

The Oreck is as basic as it gets but the beauty of the fan in the red model, if I am not mistaken is that it should have a metal fan. I like the colour design of the soft bag on yours. Use the back pocket to store a pair of ear defender ear muffs!

Can the beater bar on the Oreck be turned off? If not, why would you vacuum flooring with a beater bar vacuum? The beater bar would just scatter the dirt everywhere not to mention damage the floors?

To my knowledge Oreck's don't have beater bars. Just bushy brush rolls that pick up rather well and don't mark hard floors.

Orecks usually have a squeegee strip at the back of its floor nozzle behind the roller brush opening.This prevents the brush from kicking the debris on hard floors into your feet.Some of the Simplicity/Riccar lightweight machines have this strip.If you really want to stop the roller brush on these machines-you could undo the belt from the motor.
