I noticed the same. Back when I first started in 2017 I was finding antique vacuums left and right for +/- $50-$80. Now? Hardly anything and when there is people think its worth $600. I don't know what happened.

Slow

It's Ludacris the price for vacuums.
I will say that 1c and the eureka are beautiful. You don't see many 1cs with the gold cap.
I've gotten the vacuette electric from Thomas and a electro hygiene 2-230 straight suction. I have those 1927 GE, 1920 something royal and a 1940s royal.
I'm have things I need to focus on but in a month or so I can start on all them. I'm doing the vacuette currently. The vacuette motor housing is stripped down degreased. I had to use a deeper than usual sanding techniqueNC. I got the rough gouges out but I need to start slow and work my Way up sanding 60 to 2000 grit to get the mirror shine. The hygiene was rough. I cleaned off the front and corrosion and took the fan off cleaned it up some. I got it so I can use the hygiene but it's functional.
I'm have a 505 I've completely gone through. It needs a headlight better bag and the correct everything there just when I get time.
I also got a 100th anniversary avalir it could be polished but ya.
Where did you get the bags for your machines?

Bags and vacs

Les,

I was very fortunate to get the original Eureka model M bag from Airway Charlie who had an extra one in his collection. I got the very unique Kirby bag on a Kirby 2C I bought for parts.

Huskyvacs,

I started restoring in 2016 and your right they were plentiful back then. No problem finding the older vacuums and rare parts.

I'm just getting into this hobby, but I've also noticed that the prices people are asking for vintage vacuums is absolutely INSANE. It's discouraging. Sellers on eBay are definitely smoking something. I was VERY lucky apparently to get my Electrolux vacuums fairly cheap.

Although I've also noticed that antiques in general have really gone up in value. I collect other kinds of antiques - mostly cameras and typewriters. Years ago, I used to practically trip over typewriters in antique and thrift shops, but for a while more recently they suddenly became much harder to find and were selling at nutty prices. They're starting to come back down to a little more reasonable prices, but still not as easy to find as they used to be. I don't know what's going on...maybe hipsters buying stuff to brag how "retro" they are and jacking up prices? On one hand, it's good that people are interested in antiques...but as a consequence it is making things harder for hobbyists.
