I absolutely hate it when people on ebay ruin great pieces of history! I have seen a D-80 with a Blue Classic III-type bag with blue trim, a blue spray-painted belt lifter, blue trim, and a Eureka F&G setup. I also hate it when people call a vacuum something that it isn't. I saw someone call a
Classic O a Classic III. A D-80 a D-50. Electrolux XXX called a Model G. Am I weird because this gets on my nerves? Opinions?

No they are just stupid

No i don't really think so. I doesn't bother me and i see this all the time. I've seen several Heritage II's NIB(New In Box selling for $500+. Now that should be against Kirby's guidelines and this vacuum is 20+ years old. How are you able to get one new in the box and have 5 in stock?

Simply put...

Can't expect everyone to care about vacuums, or know about them. Better that something is for sale on Ebay and may or will be bought or used in the future, instead of trashed.

Let's leave the issue of illegality for real crimes.

P.S. Another point. Even vacuum collectors don't know all the iterations of all different brands. I could, for example, identify most of the iterations of Electrolux, but as for other brands, my knowledge is almost nil (or, at least, limited to what I happen to pick up from these forums).[this post was last edited: 4/3/2011-19:13]

I think the worst is when the rebuilder removes the original Kirby builder's plate. It makes it impossible to tell a 505 from a 512, or a 516 from a 519. Is there any particular reason for doing this? Does the rebuilder want you to think it's a newer machine?

They just don't realize that there a about such things. As for WHY they take them off, that's beyond me.

TYPO!

Let me re-say that post: They just don't realize there are people who care about such things. As for WHY they take them off is beyond me.

You never know why people do things they do many they don't know better. Maybe it was the bag they had or the one they could find or the price was right who knows.
