Is this really a vintage thing?

I have a Von Schrader Carpet Cleaner. But I think it is long after that. It is very large, and tan. I would guess that the one you shared is from the 70's or 80's, considering the one I have is from the 80's, because that is when my grandpa bought it

Is this machine any good? I looked more closely at the auction and it really seems to just be a glorified Kirby Rug Renovator -- on steroids! It appears to work on the same basic principle as the Kirby, at any rate.

There's a letter in the paperwork set with a date of 1971 on it.

I can attest,

It is one of the best carpet cleaning machines I have ever seen. The Bank I worked at for almost 20 years had a special wooven wool rug made when they remodeled in 1980. Because it was wool, you had to be very careful how it was cleaned. (the rug is still there and looks almost as good as did it when I left)

There was a gentleman that did the cleaning for us for all of the 20 years I worked for the bank and he used this very machine. The rug had a flower pattern with a fair amount of white wool...when he was done, the white always looked as good as new. It was amazing. On a cold winter Friday night we would have 300 to 400 people walk over that carpet with thier dirty boots, shoes, ect...right of the main highway loaded with salt...it would a be mess. We had the rug cleaned every Spring...and it would come out looking like new. Even the entry carpet which was a much cheaper grade, not wool came out like new.

The carpet behind the teller line was a cheaper grade of carpet as well. Two other banks in the surrounding area had used the same carpet...they replaced thiers twice and our was still looking as good as new.

Dry Foam Cleaning Method

If I'm not mistaken, this unit is known for the dry foam/low moisture cleaning method. A lot of these foam cleaning machines have a compressor like unit to make the detergent solution into a foam before it is applied to the carpet.

The person who won this monstrosity is by chance a club member... contact me. I'd love to get ahold of those owners manuals and scan them for the newsletter...
