I was not aware that Australia had Electrolux cleaners although I could be wrong but this looks to me like one.

Or is it a Hoover? Perhaps the 427 with a different handle or the Electrolux 302?

Seems to have a Hooveresque floor tool and a harsher motor noise to be Lux.

This is from the 1984/1985 period of PCBH.

The cleaner is 5.55 into the chunk featuring the wonderful Joyce Barry soon to be Pringle.

Hoover 419

It looks like a Hoover 419 to me, without any handle at all! For our US members the handle to this cleaner was something along the lines of shape of the Portapower handle. The nozzle is not correct for a 419, its the style that first appeared with the TOL Freedom, later applid to more basic models and a wide variety of pattern spares.

It looks too long to be a 427, but the real clue is the flex grommet which takes the flex out horizontally - parallel to the top of the machine.

On a related topic did you see the recent "celebration" of Are You Being Served. They showed a christmas edition with Mr Mash using an early Freedom up by the lift doors. You can see him using the switch down by the wheel, which indicates its age - I have not seen this variety of Freedom (they are quite rare anyway) in all the years I have been collecting

Id say a 419 with a missing handle - it looks like a Hooverflex hose????

Al- yup I saw AYBS - I think if a Freedom like that came up on Ebay it would create quite a bit of interest lol....

I would agree about the Hooverflex hose and actually, it sounds like a 419 as well.

As for the Freedom - I would say BIG BUCKS. I wonder why they are so rare, because they certainly seemed popular at the time although I suppose the TOL models were up against the Lux 330/345 which seemed to be EVERYWHERE, esp the 345

For US/Canadian members this is what we are going on about - NOT the cleaner in the video clip.

I couldnt quite figure it out with not being so up on whats what from that 60s period.

The thing about PCBH is there was never any really up to date models shown. Considering it ran 1979 - 1986 there was never a vac in it less than 10 years old.

Vacs seen so far have been

Hoover 612
Hoover Junior in pink
Hoover Junior with the light yellowy brown front cover
This Hoover seen above and some kind of Shop Vac Meg Morris was using to clean her living room carpet with no floor tool on. Must have taken her ages LOL.

Certainly low budget in the prop department LOLOLOL
 
The complete lineup

Initially anyway. I have two of these, both BOL, the orange one shown below and the later red version of the same machine. These did seem to be VERY popular at the time, and indeed an orange one cropped up on ebay a few weeks back. I got the red one last year, it was £1 on ebay ....

AYBS

On the AYBS mentioned above they did not have the right floor tool either - it was a late version of the small combination nozzle as used on the Hooverette and 417, but with the smaller plastic pivot rather than the classic aluminum neck

Therefore not just down under .....

Electrolux in Oz?

Yes, we did have them ... from way back in the 1920's. I inherited by grandmother's in the 70's. It came in a huge wooden case containing all the attachements. The cylinder was covered in a green leatherette.

I can't identify the cleaner in the clip either. It looks like it wants to be an Electrolux with a toe-switch at the rear, but if you look at the reflections from the light, the backend almost looks chromed.

This is a great guessing competition!
 
419 Switch

In all my babbling on about Freedoms I forgot to post a pic of the 419 range - so here it is. The switch is, of course, on the back. I hold my point about the flex though - no Electrolux that I ever saw had the flex in that position

Rob, as Nick confirmed Australia did have the similar models of Lux that we had, my aunts emigrated late sixties and went from a Lux65 here to the same model there, she now has (still using) a Z91 (orange) & Z94 (blue), they also had the Jumbomatics I think??

Yes the vac in the vid looked like a Z94 on quick first glance but yes as Al & Seamus confirmed looks like the Hoover 419 with the missing handle!!!

Does anyone have a purple freedom?? I know Rob has the green model, and I have a red model on its way...very underrated vac I thought and simple inside courtesy of the "Secret Life of the Vac".

Thats one thing that Hoover where grand at was the use of the Industrial Colour Pallette..never Afraid of Colour - Thats Hoover!!!
