My first Kirby, a "remanufactured" Ultimate G has won my heart and sole. Love that thing. But, the last two times I've used it it will sometimes get kinda "jerky" going forward. If I slow down my stroke it will stop the jerking (there's a joke in there somewhere). It doesn't seem to do it in reverse and doesn't do it at all when I'm shampooing. It always had a "click" when starting to move forward. Is my TechDrive got problems?

Sounds like it could be.......

If you go to goodvac.com, they have some videos on own to replace parts in the transmission. I am not mechanical at all, but even I was able to fix a clicking noise in my Gsix. There is a gear in there that doesn't engage or disengage properly and it is an inexpensive part. You will need torx screw drivers to replace the part.

Yes I had that happen with mines too, I replaced the transmission which was really easy to do & it works smoothly finally, no more crunching & clicking when pushed forward. 😀

Or it could be...

The floor nozzle is set too low which caused the machine to skip over the carpet in a jerky manner. Try raising the nozzle a notch or two. This happens on thick or high pile carpet.

My Sentria sometimes does this.

SPTYKS, I wondered about that. I try to follow the "lower till motor sound changes and then go one more click". But I wondered if I was over doing it. Thanks for the suggestion.

SPY, I'm a little confused by your last post. The motor seems to be running great I was refering to the "KIRBY BOOK" on how to set nozzle hight.

SorryTom, I was responding to the two videos that Ben posted. Specifically the second video with the hose attached sounded suspicious during the power off / spin-down sequence.

Ultimate G skipping

when I worked for Kirby in sacramento the factory had us change the gears on the transmission with the gears for a Diamond edition gears. Those are a little bigger and it stopped the Kirby from skipping or hopping. As for the clicking noise that is usally caused by the little lever that slides the transmission gears from forward to reverse. That usually stops the clicking noise. That little lever gets worn down in time.. Dan

Doug, very wise advice! If I get time next week I'm going to find the K store in Macon. Already spoke to them on the phone and it seems they have a good supply of new Sentrias. This can't end well!
