Say you're changing the bag and putting a new bag in....Can u get like a teaspoon full of Gain powder detergent and suck up into the bag? I'm not sure if it would damage the vacuum or not since the powder is so fine....

Thanks :)

Yeah, it's one of those things I definitely wouldn't recommend - just like using those drop-in toilet bowl cleaners, especially the bleach ones. You might try placing a fabric softener sheet inside the outer bag. I've seen plenty of Orecks with a dryer sheet inside, and the customers would say it works.

Gain detergent will not harm the paper bag. It is granulated enough that it does not clog up the pores of the bag, plus, if it is the first thing you put in the bag- it will remain at the bottom and not obstruct any airflow. I'm not sure of the odor, but I guess your house would smell like freshly washed clothes????

To get rid of odors, i use these neat little Oreck Scent Tablets. I put them in all my kirbys and my oreck.

I had used in the past Hoover tablets that our local grocery had for 20 years, gone now of course. Used up the last one in the concept last bag change. Tried some from local vac shop, phooey!

Dryer Sheets...

I would suggest using dryer sheets, inside the paper bag, or inside the outer bag. I use them when any of my vacuums smell bad, it it goes away right away.

Go to your local vacuum shop or to a Bed Bath and Beyond and get Fresh Wave Vacuum Pearls. My customers swear by it!

I have two boxes of Electrolux air fresheners, Clean Sweep and air filter sachets. Although, they are from the 70s, so after 30+ years of non use, they have an interesting odor too them.

Hoover scent tablets? Did you try getting some of them at the old Hoover factory service center on Fulton avenue? I think it is now called BEIRS VACUUM CENTER or something like that. Anyway go in there and talk to Jody I am sure he can get some hoover tablets for you. I used to work there on Saturdays when it was the Hoover factory service center. Tell him Dan in Wyoming sent you.... Dan

Thanks!

I have some rainbow vaccum liquid that I put on a cotton ball and suck up into the bag, but the smell is gone by the next day.....

I vacuum pretty much every other day, and the bag isn't anywhere near full, and sometimes it gets that stale smell when you vaccum and I can't stand that, so I end up changing it.

The thing that made me think of Gain is that I have an unopened box of Gain HE powder stored in a room because I bought some that was on sale, and when you walk in the room, it smells awesome in there, so it made me wonder if I put like a tea spoon or so in the bag, if it would work.

Dryer sheets sound like a good idea too.

My main reason for posting is I wanted to make sure the Gain would be something that would slip right through the bag and damage the vac, like drywall dust or something.

Thanks

I usually use Green Leaf scented sachets, they are the consistency of kitty litter, I rotate my scents seasonally, Twilight for Spring, roses Roses for Summer, Pomegranite for Fall, and Timberleaf for Winter

For clearing bad smells in bags, I've used a few things, first off is the dryer sheet thing, easy to do and lasts a couple of weeks minimum, then there's Kirby Odorific (I have the "original" scent, pretty powerful stuff), and then lastly Baking Soda (this just neutralises odours, rather than mask them), though the latter you should use sparingly cos the stuff will clog bags up... :)
