Anyone do this? I just find it so frustrating the hoover belts keep snapping after each use... tempted to start using eureka/sanitaire belts since they are always available in abundance and last longer... any thoughts?? Or advice welcome..

If they keep snapping, your brushroll is not turning properly (needs oiling or too close to the carpet) or you are using old stock belts that are just rotten. I do not believe Hoover has made OEM Convertible belts for probably the last decade or more. All the ones I seen on eBay now in a quick search are no newer than the late 90's. I've had a Hoover Convertible and a Eureka ESP and both of them have the design flaw of putting the belt within the suction path, it's very easy to pick up something that will cut the belt and cause it to snap and kill it prematurely. T

he Hoover Convertible that I got out of the dump in 2010 still has the same belt on it that came with it for who knows how long.I wouldn't think there would be any problem with what belt you use, just the same as using modern belts on 80 year old vacuums. I mean if you are going with a museum piece, sure, but if it's a daily driver that you use every day I wouldn't worry about it as long as they are the same specs.

Eureka belts are larger than Hoover belts.

Eureka belts won't have the proper tension to spin the agitator. (will fit loose)

Check the agitator and make sure it is spinning freely. Both uninstalled and installed in the machine.

Then make sure the belt is on the pulley correctly.

Finally make sure the nozzle isn't set to low as to stop the agitator from spinning.

Brushroll spins freely

I just lubed up the bearings.. I actually lubed the motor and all.. I have plastic model u4387...
U think maybe me tightening the motor shaft too tight could be having any effect? Brush spins freely inside and outside the housing. I have it set on HIGH position for my thick plush carpet..

I use them

The new Hoover belts are as a rule too tight and hard on bearings, I never have a problem with slipping. Eureka belts work fine for me.

Lol!! @ Burley servicemen

Sounds yummy..lol but back on subject do the eureka belts have enough tension to agitate properly or sufficiently on the carpet
