Introduction- Love my NEW Rainbow!

Mark, I never tried the other E series nozzles, just the rectangular (very noisy) and the newest. The lastest model is quite a bit better than my older version. I am able to deeply clean and the entire path is groomed without that visible space between the brushes- do you know what I mean? It's groomed from end to end.

@ Rob

That's why I bought 4 quart water basins for my E series Rainbows AND for my D series Rainbows.  I don't vacuum as often as I should and I have two dogs that are in and out of the house.  Fortunately, all my kids have flown the coop except for one and he'll be gone in August.  I can only imagine what kind of mess my floors would be in if I still had a houseful.

Congrats on the news Rainbow Shelly!

My mother (a 30 year Rainbow user) said "owning a Rainbow and loving it is like being in a cult." She's also said, "Rainbows aren't for the lazy." She's had a D3 and recently bought a Rainbow E2 gold. The only exception is she has a Hoover Legacy from the early 90's mainly used for the quick clean ups.

Her D3 with rectangular PN still works perfectly but decided to have a Rainbow on each floor for ease of use. I grew up with the D3 and never had allergy problems until I moved out. I saved up and bought a refurbished D4SE with rectangular PN factory refurbished (or so I was told by the dealer but it was mint looking). It has taken me through four roommates, two cats, a dog, and cleaning who knows what from apartments and condos.

Power Nozzle ratings

Best--Onyx e3 w/side 'whiskers'

Better--Rectangular D3/D4/D4SE PN (R-1650, R-2800, R-4375) w/brush/beater bars

Runner-up--Old R-1024 w/VGII

As for the Performance & earlier E Series, I have no idea because I haven't used them.

One mistake I did is NOT take a Rainbow when I moved (left at parents' house); but now that I have a few with me, I'll NEVER go back to any other vac (except for 'quickies' or depends on my vacing mood)

I can also pull out deeply imbedded sand from the house carpets & car carpet just by using suction alone that even my other vacs with more powerful suction AND rotating brushes can't get out. If I use a RainbowMate or the Wessel Werk HEB160 (sometimes I do use them or a turbo brush, since using the straight suction upholstery nozzle or Jet Rug Tool does an IMPRESSIVE job getting all the deep down dirt, even after months of not vacing the cars' interiors) with the Rainbow for vacing the car, I'd pull out YEARS of dirt that the other vacs left behind AND be changing the water after vacing each passenger seat's floor. Then I go over the car interior with the other vacs & get nothing out at all. Same thing when I'm vacing the house carpet in OH, that using only the Jet Rug tool pulled out every ounce of deeply imbedded dirt that the other vacs leave behind. Even going over the carpet & upholstery with a Power Nozzle connected to a Rainbow, I get NOTHING out (after vacing with a Rainbow with straight suction Jet Rug Tool only)

When I'm done vacing with the Rainbow (either straight suction alone or with a PN) I wash the carpets & upholstery with the AquaMate (either using the regular extraction nozzle or with a Kenmore SprayMate) & get out any remaining dirt & grit (if any left, which is rare after vacing with a Rainbow) that a Hoover Steam Vac or Rug Doctor can't get out.

The ONLY thing I don't like about the AquaMate I is that I have to connect the water hose to a faucet. Other than that, it does an EXCELLENT job deep cleaning, since I can connect either the SprayMate, squeegee, full-size carpet nozzle or upholstery nozzle (came from a Bissell canister steam vac)

Can I use the AquaMate II or III (AM-12) with the SE?

Power Nozzle Question

I've been looking at the power nozzle on the new Black model, and I think the revolving edge-clean brushes are an interesting feature.  However, I'm curious about something.  Does dog hair get wrapped around the little brushes?  I have a Golden Retriever, and I wonder if dog hair spins off those little brushes and into the vacuum flow.

Nothing has wrapped around those brushes and they are a very clever design, the dip in my carpet at the baseboards gets really clean. This new design is great.

Introduction I Love My New Rainbow

Bill,
I don't understand it, but I have had my new Rainbow for over a year now and not once have I had to clean the side brushes. I have a dog that sheds. I also notice that the Rainbow power nozzle does not get the threads wrapped around the brush roll like so many of my other power nozzle brushes.
The worst for getting the dog hair and threads caught of my machines are my Oreck,Dyson and the Hyla that has a Wessel Werk nozzle.
Also I don't understand, but when you pull the Rainbow power nozzle in the back stroke it does not leave the gaps that you think it would by the design of the retating side brush and middle belt gap. It must be a function of the air channels on the bottom plate.

Erik,
I have found the very same thing you posted about the straight suction jet rug tool. It gets a LOT of sand and fine grit that even more powerful machines with a power noozle miss. Here again I think it must have to do with the air flow on the Rexair.
I will never forget my first vac convetion. I went in and saw my first Rexair B in competition.. I was laughing at the sad little black Rexair sitting next to much bigger and more powerful machines. I stopped laughing when the competion started. One of the other club members told me "just watch and you will be surprised" at the Rexair's performance. It was a shocker for me.

My

Opinon After owning a Rainbow, and both a Germen vacuum. I feel like the miele doesn't spit the bigger items like food pieces and such back at my feet. Every time i use the Rainbow that happens every ayyoining . I dont know about the new Rainbow. I understand no vacuum is perfect. I know i always take crap about the Rainbow. Its just becuase there are many things i dont like about them . But then i got back to how the Rainbow has helped me. And since my Rainbow power nozzel doesn't work and cant use it. I kinda miss it . I have thought about getting a new Rainbow but i think Hyla might be the better choice for me. Also i feel like the wessel work is the better power nozzel. And just my opinon.

Wessel Werk Power Nozzles

Rob, that's an interesting observation.  I own three Miele's.  Along with Electrolux brush rolls, the Mieles always tend to be a bigger problem with pet hair wrapping around the brush rolls.  I think the tufting on the bristles is so close together that hair easily gets caught.  The best brush rolls to address that problem are my Sanitaire VGII and my Kirby Diamond G with Kirby's special Pet brush roll.  The brush stiffeners on the recent Rainbow brush rolls seem to help too.  However, dog hair tends to get wrapped around the area where the belt rides.  That's a small thing to put up with for such a sweet pooch!

Introduction I love my new Rainbow

Bill,
What a beautiiful dog. I am with you. I nasty brush roll is a small price to pay!

Today I was vacing the car with the Rainbow & I got 1/4" of gritty dirt on the bottom of the water pan, & I only used the upholstery nozzle. After that, I steam cleaned the car's carpet & boy did the Rainbow pull out DIRTY water nonstop (in wash mode) Then, I slide the AquaMate's control lever to "Rinse" & the rinse water was still dark.

btw, the carpet had a HUGE motor oil spill, & the Hoover Steam Vac only got very little oil & dirt, but left the rest behind. I used Rug Doctor Oxy Steam detergent for the wash & LA's Totally Awesome for the pre-treatment & the Electrolux Turbotool Rug Washer for the scrubbing, then the Bissell upholstery nozzle (attached to AquaMate) for extracting. Getting the remaining oil out of the carpet (if any still left) is hard but I may have to give another round soon.

Joshdonnel, you may want to give this new Rainbow a test-drive. I'm no expert but have used my share of vacuum cleaners. I would say this new design is almost perfect for a Rainbow lover, the PN can be attached to every part of the wand or directly into the the pistol grip.

I was at an Oreck store today and a lady brought her upright vacuum in, somehow the bag had come loose and there was a thick layer of dirt throughout the outer cloth bag...yuck. Cost her $45.00 for them to clean it and she has to leave it there. I came home and gave my new Rainbow a big kiss!

No More Dust!

I have been using my new Rainbow exclusively for about two weeks now and I am very impressed! I honestly can't believe that a vacuum cleaner can make this much difference in the dust level in my home. I know that it may be difficult to be conclusive about dust on wood furniture, but my true test is the black Ceran top on my range. I usually have to dust it every three days, yes, I said dust it. It has been over a week and it is shiny black as if it had just been cleaned. This alone is worth every penny I spent on my Rainbow. I do have the old SE model but I didn't use it consistently because I had to change hoses for the marble, then then the other for the carpet and it was just a bit of a hassle for me to do every other day. I had one vacuum for the marble another for regular carpet cleaning and the SE for heavy cleaning, now I just use one vacuum, one hose and change all the tools and PN as needed, easy breezy. I can even decide how long I want the extension. This vac is really worth the investment.

I Love my new Rainbow!

Even though I have only used it once. I have had it about six months now.. Problem is my Dachsund chewed the cord into. So I am waiting to come up with the extra $40.00 that a new Rainbow cord costs. Then I will have to figure out how to install the new cord. Then I will finally get to use the heck out of the new Rainbow!! I can hardly wait..... Dan

Have any of you who own the NEW BLACK Rainbow had problems with the belts stretching too quickly? I'm on my second belt in a month and I dont vacuum a lot of thick pile carpets. I've got mostly low pile rugs and even then I open the suction valve if I hear the brushroll and motor turning too slow. I wonder if the side rotating brushes create too much resistance?

I've been using mine for about a month now and I find myself motivated to do more "above the floor" cleaning since the 7 foot hose is a decent length and the attachments look to be made for use in the real world. My biggest complaint about my Miele Capricorn has always been that the hose is too short and the tools look like they were designed first and foremost to fit in the on board tool compartment. Usability seemed to be an afterthought.

I love the fact that the Rainbow has a Full Size dusting brush and crevice tool. I can use everything with the 14 foot hose and I can do each room from ceiling to floor. I also enjoy not having expensive bags to buy and it means that I won't have to smell the pet hair and dander that I vacuumed up a week ago. My Miele Capricorn has been collecting dust in the closet from being unused. I finally had to remove the new bag from it after 2 weeks because the odor was so strong.
