Interesting Whispertone PN with dirt sensor

You don't see many of these older power nozzles with the dirt sensor. I am guessing these came on the TOL Whispertone in the mid-90s? It's definitely newer than 1993 as I have that year's catalog and I would guess older than 1996ish which is when the newer logo came out.

I've seen a few of these.  I'm guessing the electronic sensor part is gimmicky.  Part of the push in the mid 80s to 90s to get electronics into all appliances.  


 


One can usually tell, when vacuuming, by the sounds coming from the pn, wands, and hose, if there is excess dirt or sand being extracted.  Even an upright will have a certain sound when extracting a lot particles. 


 


A novelty it is though.  I think there is another model listed on ebay for $19, similar to this.
