Info on Kirby 3C

Hello everyone...

I recenty got this Kirby 3C from a dark, dank basement. I am wanting to get some information about what is original and what isn't. Instead of posting a lot of pictures in this post, I have a web page to look at with a dozen pics.

I am also curious as to what anyone would think would be a fair Buy It Now price for this item on eBay. I didn't see too much in the way of completed sales or Internet information on this model.

Hi, that's a nice find.

The handle grip is original and in lovely condition.

The bag, as you noted is a replacement.

The belt cover is some kind of rinky-dink replacement. Original was a black bakelike cap with the Kirby logo in dark red.

The cord is original. Since it has the original plugs, it could probably be repaired, or else the cord itself could be replaced retaining the original plugs.

The larger crevice tool with the angled end is original, the other two are from parts unknown.

Don't know why there are two floor duster/polisher attachments (the long felt things), they do both appear to be original.

The extra upholstery nozzle w/ brush attachment is original, probably gotten as a spare.

The long, flat nozzle is an optional straight-suction floor/rug nozzle.

The paint sprayer is original.

The metal bag top is from the original bag. It originally had a black rubber collar that fitted over it. Those collars tend to disintegrate over time. I've only got one myself and it's only in fair condition.

The deluxe cord-holding band at the bottom of the handle was an optional, extra attachment that few people got because of the expense. ;P

Can't give you any advice on a buy-it-now as I never use that. You may be cheating yourself out of a high-dollar auction. This machine is rare, even given its various flaws. I'd expect that bidding would be aggressive on it. But, then, you never know. One week, one of these will go for thousands of dollars; the next week one won't get but a bid or two while a 1980s orange plastic Sux-a-lot with mismatched parts will go for thousands... "Go figger."

If you decide not to list it on eBay, I'd be happy to relieve you of it. ;P

Hi Mark, I agree with Charlie. A buy it now price might stop you getting a fairly higher ammount for it. I can't remember what I paid for my Kirby model 3C. I think I trade it for a kirby 2C.

About 5 or so years a kirby 3C went for over $2000 but it was all original.

I would think you will get a lower 3 fig $ ammount. Not as high as if it was original but a decent amount never the less.
