and have it manufactured, what would it be? It can be any combination of features from any vacuum cleaners that were actually built and sold. It has to be reasonable and doable, even to include a new mold for a housing, or some change like that. You may post more than once.


 


Mine would be: A soft bag Hoover Elite II with a Concept I motor, Quadriflex brushroll, Windtunnel nozzle design and 12 blade fan, 50 ft cord, with tool carrier option of either on or off the handle. Comments, suggestions and comparisons are invited.


 


 
 
Good idea Trebor,I've designed many vacuums in the past,I'll have to go digging around for those old blueprints...

As for right now, Convertible base, With a 12 amp convertible motor, Along with my "Anti-Cloth Filter bag" Concept set up, I'll have to get out blueprints for clarification :D

I would like to design two vacuums, one upright and one canister.
The upright would be a Kirby Sanitronic based machine with stronger metal fan, stainless steel brush roller in the 'Oblique' style, it would have a Mini Emtor like the new Sentria II and use HEPA bags. The hose would be wired for powered mini nozzle, most of the other attachments would be metal, not plastic and shampooers and other rarely-used attachments would be dropped.
The canister would be a cross between a Filter Queen and a Fairfax. It would have a sound-insulated motor for quiet operation like a Filter Queen, but use HEPA filter bags in the style of a Fairfax. It would have an older Eureka style power nozzle with an 'Oblique' style stainless steel brush roller. Again, metal attachments and a powered mini nozzle. The hose would have the handle of the older Majestic Triple Crown, but have a botton-lock for wands and attachments. I would like it to have an optional 'wet pick-up' attachment set with 'carpet shampooing' capabilities. The Power Nozzle would have a head light, maybe a row of LEDs.

what if i build vacuums that look the exact same way that old ones do but with new motors and fans and bags so they have todays filtering and power. so i could manufacture all models of kirby with new motors and fans and bag filtration. wouldent that be cool?? but of coarse we would need the manufaturers permision
 
What is the obsession with metal attachments?

A rug tool, a bare floor brush, fine. Metal wands for the floor tools, fine, but for dusting, upholstery, and crevice tools and the wands to reach with them, plastic is lighter, also you do not risk damaging walls and furniture nearly as much with plastic tools.
 
That is EASY for me!

I would make a new Apex Strato Cleaner, make the bag a little easier to change,and I would re design the attachments..It would be, however, a straight suction machine,it already was the strongest machine on the market back then, when I got thru with the motor you would not need a power nozzle..I would try to get at least 125 to 150 inches of waterlift and over 125 cubic feet of airflow, For an upright, Again, a slightly re designed Apex 603, install a top fill disposable bag, and it would be darn near perfect.
 
Build-A-Vac

My custom creation would include:

Tri-Star motor/bag/filter setup, for optimal power and retention of suction as the bag fills.

On board attachments. I really like the attachments on my Power Tank, they have plastic heads for lightness and metal connectors for strength. They also handle massive airflow without getting stuck to the surface being vacuumed. As for storage, I think I would like a saddle similar to the Power Tank's setup would work. They are securely held, yet ready to be drawn at a moments notice. The saddle could also act as an oversized bumper.

7" or 10" hose, with gas pump style handle included electronic speed control, suction/brush roll on/off, and a nice padded grip. I would like it to have a small nozzle protruding from the handle that the attachments fit over, as opposed to the Power Tank or Dimension 1000 hoses where the attachments fit in the handle.

For a power nozzle, I'd have a Windtunnel style agitator cavity with a quadraflex brush roll. I think a strip of LED lights for illumination would be nice as well.

I can't decided if I want a super long power cord or a cord winder.

Of course, the whole package needs be stylish and some sound insulation for quietness wouldn't hurt either.

First you all know mine is a power nozzle canister!!

Suction unit will body style of a Panasonic Jet Flo from the 90's with rubberized coated 4 metal caster wheels as on the Royal Power Tanks. All of the attachments from the Panasonic Jet Flo can stay the same except for the upholstery nozzle, that would switch to Hoover's canister upholstery nozzle with the rubber fingers. Electrolux Sidekick mini power head mounted on wands or over bag compartment door. On/off switch would be mounted on front for easy step on as with Eureka Rotomatics-1700 series, cord rewind button would be easy to use like that of Hoover Dimension 1000 or Kenmore Progressive.

Exact copy of Hoover Futura/ Dimension 1000 basic hose grip handle with upgraded hose material as used on later PowerMax and older style Windtunnel bagged canisters. 360 swivel at canister. As with plain style hand grip, suction regulator would be on handle. Aluminum, push button lock and release activated telescoping wand as seen on Riccars, with foot pedal release of Riccars.

Powernozzle--body style of Oreck Quest Pro with foot operated brush roll on/off as on Hoover Quadraflex or Panasonic Jet-Flo. Metal base plate, Wheels and height adjuster and brushroll monitor and serpentine belt to that of Riccar/ Simplicity power nozzle. Nozzle opening is Hoover Windtunnel designed to allow great airflow across entire nozzle width and sufficient suction to reach brushes around belt. Thoroughly sealing gaskets around swivel neck and on agitator around belt. Sealed, smooth lining on Suction duct so there is no place for dirt to get stuck on anything. Hoover Power nozzle motor for that great purring sound!!! Air channel grooved on sides for edge cleaning as on RotoMatic power heads. Hoover Windtunnel canister agitator with chevron shape but ends similar to that of Eureka RotoMatic with metal slip on end caps.

Navy blue color exact same as either Hoover PowerMax S3603-040 or Hoover PowerMax Deluxe S3606 without see through bag compartment.
 
Well..

A dirt devil broom vac with a metal chasis a slightly deeper and more durable fan, poly bags, a 4 row brushroll that is stiffer than the original

I used to have a diagram of a compact canister (similar to the portapower or buster B) which had a vertically mounted motor i think a sanyo transformax motor would have been suitable as they are fairly powerful for the size it would have also had a bag cage similar to the older luxs around the bag, and there would have been a small amount of space around all sides of the bag cage just as lux did to allow for decent airflow retention
 
My design

My design would be a Dyson cyclonic canister, Areus lux guardian motor/fan, metal base plate, Electrolux nimble hose/wand system, Kenmore intuition tools.
 
Water Filtration Upright

A water filtration upright vacuum. Not sure how exactly how I would design it, but in a way the water basin can be easily removed much like a bagless vacuum.


If any one has any ideas why this wouldn't work please comment, because Iv'e always wondered why there hasn't been any produced.
 
uprights move alot more so the water in the basin would splash around alot more. if somehow the water level got below the tube that let the dirt in to the water basin then there would be dust everywhere. canisters dont move as much. it is the hose that moves
 
Don't do this at home with your Dyson-Legend at one of the vac shops is that some woman filled the Dyson dirt bin to the fill level with WATER and used it like a Rainbow!The Dyson wasn't the same after that.Just DON'T do that with your Dyson!I am still thinking on this vacuum designing.The idea of the Royal DD Broom vacuum in a metal version is interesting-and please make it with a metal fan and grounded cord-bet some commercial cleaners would love such a vacuum-good for cleaning in offices around all of those desks and such.Maybe TTI might take up that idea?

A Hoover Dial-A-Matic with a proper diameter duct hose and a Celebrity motor for suction, a P/N motor to drive the agitator, and Windtunnel design in the nozzle.
 
New Hoover Dial-a-Matic

I like Trebors idea of a new Dial-A-Matic.

It would need to have powerdrive so it could be considered a top of the line model, easy to use on thick, highpile carpets, and allow for high airflow and suction.

The motors, one for the brushroll and one for the suction and powerdrive, would be brushless, magnet motors to enable more powerful, quieter, more reliable operation. The brushroll would have replaceable brushstrips and interchangable beaterbars. There would be one bar in the middle where the belt on would have run on other machines. The powerdrive would have a variable engangement rate to avoid jerkiness, on different carpet types, and depending users preferences. The electronic controller would be able to vary the motor speeds indipendently, including turning the brushroll off for bare floors. It would also light the full bag light and finally turn the motor off to save it from damage. The height adjustment would work like a Kirby so that it can quickly be adjusted to different carpets and floors. A micro adjustment screw would also be included to fine tune to any carpet height. The tools would be on board.

My family has used a Dial-A-Matic for over 30 years without a blockage. Are they really that bad at blocking, if used correctly? Also, is it just me or is every Windtunnel you open blocked. I hope that wasn't too long, guess the engineer in me just took over.
