I need to know how to disassemble an older Kirby with the switch on the side.

I have redone many older Kirbys but never one with the power switch on the side. Any advice would be helpful.

All I’ve done to those older Kirby’s is clean them a bit. I’ve never actually disassembled one fully. To take the cover off to access the motor you need to unscrew the 3 flathead screws on each side of the cover. Then very gently try to pry of the plastic part of the switch, one that comes off. You’ll be able to access the motor.

What is the exact model number, please?

Models 512 and earlier will have a toggle-type foot switch.

Models 513, 514 and 515 will have the step-on push-button switch like the 516 and later models.
