Hey Tom, want to save a rare Kenmore from being parted out on ebay? An ebay seller I know has a late 1980's Whispertone with the infinitely adjustable speed motor. It has the unique hose with the sliding speed adjustment on top, a three position off/on/floor switch facing the operators thumb and the hose itself I believe is all there. I bought one just like it earlier in the day so I don't need a second (this makes my third Whispertone total). There are tons of old plain vanilla Whispertones out there to be parted out, but not many original ones with the variable speed motor. Does the museum have one already? I just hate to see a rare and unique vacuum get parted out and am hoping I can find someone willing to buy it and keep it together with it's hose and Powermate.

I was in the vacuum cleaner repair/sales business for 23 years before selling my vac store to my best friend (former VCCC member, Evan Rogers, from Boston). I used to buy all the trade-in vacs from the Rainbow and Kirby dealers. I got tons of those Kenmores when they were just a few years old. I kept the desirable ones, like the top of the line Whispertone, and so still have them. I worked on thousands of them in my lifetime. At 52, I've had a long time to do so - as I've been in the vacuum cleaner business (made all my money with vacuums) since the age of 18. Thanks for the offer, but I have a great collection of Kenmores all ready. Many won't go out in the Museum for another decade or more - waiting for them to really become 'vintage'.

2 bags arrived today, now I can use the cardboard collar to design an adapter to use a more common bag, when I get it done I will post some pictures.As usual, Tom came thru, a true friend who is always willing to help.

Cardboard adapter!

Before I had found some Sunbeam Challenger Vacuum Bags, I tried to use Electrolux but decided to fabricate an adapter using the green semi-rigid plastic from a dog collar. Used the only bag I had as a template, cut out the plastic to match using tin snips. Worked great to better hold the Electrolux bag in place and seal the gap as well. You can see it in the foreground of the attached picture.

Very clever Fantomfan. I am definitely learning things here. I have a couple of vacs where that technique may save me some grief finding bags and allow me to adapt HEPA bags to vacs not intended to use them. Very clever indeed.

Is that the original color scheme of that vacuum? Wow!

Thanks, I had to sit and think about it before selecting the right plastic piece. I was very pleased it works.

I also have some old possibly rare vacuum cleaner bags that I found at a Lion's Club Thrift Store out of town.
