Gareth

you and I agree and I just did a quick search on eBay for Genuine Rainbow belts and I found a seller selling them @ 3 belts for $4.99 that's $1.66 per belt so you could change the belts on the Rainbow power nozzle once every four months for less than a cup of fancy coffee . It`s almost like people think belts cost $166.00 and that's why they can`t afford to change a belt until it breaks .

I have learned though no matter what we say people still can`t comprehend the tiny cost to replace a belt regularly to keep the machines running at peak performance and they will continue to wait until they break because that's what everyone believes . I wish I knew the person who started that myth because a good 99% of vacuum owners believe that and it is their law and you can not change their minds no matter what we say .

That is how I started with vacuums I used to pick Hoover Convertibles and Eureka vacuums that were thrown out because of stretched belts replace them clean the machines up and resell them . That's how I purchased my first car 1985 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz with vacuum cash that I have saved since the age of 5 selling trash picked vacuums .

New Rainbow power nozzle

Anyone here have contact information for a Rainbow dealer? I would like to buy the new power nozzle for my machine. I just talked to a dealer in
Columbia Mo and they want 400.00 just for the nozzle.

Thank You
Robert

I gotta have one!

My current P/N does eat the belts and I've been bothered about dog hair wrapping around the motor spindle. Hopefully this will make my machine more desirable for when I list it on eBay. Sorry to say, but the thrill is gone. I still love the Rainbow, but I'm hardly ever home anymore and I'm the only one in my household who is diligent enough to wash out the basin and scrub the separator clean. I'd rather send it off to a good home before the lack of care takes its toll on the machine. Besides, Dan's threads about the new Aerus has been making me drool!

Tom, that makes perfect sense to me about Rainbow and the belts. It sort of reminds me of when I managed an Oreck Store and how many belts we'd sell in a day!

John

Just sell it as is with a new belt most people on eBay will never know the difference .

The Aerus Guardian Platinum is my go to machine I am too busy with my Real Estate I don't have the extra time to clean my Rainbow but I do use it when things slow down . I will never give up my Rainbow E Onyx .

I JUST

Dan,
I just ordered my new Rainbow power nozzle with the side gear belt and new safty switch. I called Ken Bashford and as ususal he gave a very fair price and is shipping out today.
By keeping the center air path and removing the obstruction of the belt we should have a winning combination with the Rainbow's continuous air flow and new brush design. It should be even more quiet than the power nozzle that came with my Black Rainbow. I will give you an update when it arrives.
I have loved the powered side whisker brushes. No more need to use the crevice tool along the baseboards and works great on carpeted stairs too.
Thanks for posting the pictures.

Change belts every three months

regardless if you vacuum every day for three months or once per week? Does it matter?
I've changed the belt of my rainbow PN twice only based on the fact that I read you should change them frequently, but I didn't notice/hear a single fraction of a difference. I felt as if I were throwing a still working great belt away....I don't know what a stretched belt would sound/feel like but I'm sure you would hear or notice something or is it not noticeable?

Good for you

Rob you`ll love it .

Mark is $1.66 really a lot of money to spend on a belt to replace it every three months ? That's $4.99 to change them every 4 months per year . It is made from rubber they stretch and wear while in use . I am sorry but I find it very hard to believe that people swear there is no difference when there is belts are not made to last a lifetime as the geared type belts are .

I have always changed belts in all of my vacuums every 3 months and I use many vacuums but even just sitting around they stretch . I don't know I guess $4.99 per year might be a lot of money for some maybe that's why no one likes to change their belts regularly . I am just at a loss when this subject comes up and many people feel just change the belt ONLY if it breaks .

I guess

you are right Gareth , as soon as I hear a slight noise in my car I immediately take it to the Mercedes dealership for a check and a service . I am very picky about every machine I own and maintain every one to factory specs .

I want every machine I own to run as if it came right off of the assembly line .

Well, clearly, there is a noticeable

difference with a worn or stretched belt. They can make the rugs with rubber'skid marks'. etc. The cleaner slows down, too.
I keep my aunt's HOOVERS and mine supplied with correct, genuine HOOVER belts. I have a huge supply.........got genuine belts for $.99 a package, with 2 belts in each. They were on sale, so I bought them all. I also find them still sealed at thrift stores.
It is imperative to "keep your HOOVER cleasner operating at peak performance". THat is written in the book.

I miss the beater bars like the rectangular Rainbow PNs had

I also converted my R-4375C power nozzle to use geared belt; the PN's original motor gave out

All I had to do is buy a geared belt pulley & PN motor that TriStar used on the DXL & EX-20

Is there an option to buy soft bristle/beater bar or stiff bristle rollers for the new Rainbow PN?

It all depends on the model,

I can't remember the last time I changed the belt in any Elite machine I own, They seem to last a LONG time and still provide excellent performance. They're genuine HOOVER, of course!

However, I notice on my HOOVER convertibles and Eureka F&G style cleaners, I find myself constantly replacing the belts, I went to take out the '78 Self-Propelled Eureka and Nope! I'm fresh our of belts, and the old one is stretch beyond use.

Hoover belts do well, but...

I would advise checking them. Sometimes we think the machine is working very well, but upon reinstalling a fresh belt, you'll notice a big difference. Grooming can get inconsistent with older belts. Also sometimes upon checking you'll find cracking or flaking on the belts and you know it's going to break soon.

I don't think upright belts last as long as canisters either. My grandmom had a navy blue Hoover Elite Supreme hard case bagged upright for several years until she sold her house and left the vacuum to the new owners. The belt rarely broke but it's good to go in about every 6 months or so and check things over.

My Hoover power nozzle belts never break, and the torque of the motor is powerful but I check and replace them as needed. Usually about once a year. Longer than I'd think they'd go, but the Hoover power head belts start out quite small so it takes a while for them to stretch significantly enough to lose tension. Great cleaners. I've had any problems with my Hoover power heads and most of mine have been used semi-commercially, cleaning customers houses of mine on occasion.
