I just got 2 late 70's vacuums

These are MINT!!! The Electrolux Tri-Vac stick cleaner is one I have never seen in this Olympia color and the Convertible is a promotional model U 4190 two speed motor.

that trivac was make to go along with a canadian electrolux the AP280 in about 1982.

I think it works pretty well, I believe its a direct air motor.
Fred that Convertible was so mint that the brush roll and plate were still shiny!

Glad you are enjoying the Convertible. I haven't used my canned ham since the last time I saw you. I'll try to be gentle with it next time. Still need to get the nozzle hose replaced. I plan to do that this weekend.

1st Trivac?

<span style="font-family: georgia,palatino; font-size: medium;">Not sure about the States and whether the Trivac models were different, but see the picture for what I believe is the first Trivac (at least in Canada), to match the contemporaneous model AP 200 (produced 1977-79-ish). </span>

Yes Kenny, I love the Convertible!!! This convertible came from Chad who bought it at an estate sale, sold it to Kenny, and five minutes later sold it to me in a hotel parking lot lol. safe to say that convertible gets around. However when a convertible finds me they rarely leave me unless I already have that model.

I have always thouht the Canadian luxes from the 88 on are the coolest things, would love to have them all up through early 80's

The trivac was in a thrift store here in town. It's been there for a while and the lady had $40.00 marked on it. I waited knowing it would come down. I was driving by with a friend of mine who said hey that store is going out of business, wasn't there an Electrolux you wanted in that place. We flipped a U turn and the vac was still there with $22.00 on it. My friend being quite the bargain man got her down to $15.00 and I took it. ( I would have paid the $22.00 but shhhh )
Speaking of lux does anyone know much about the old style uprights? I always thought there were 4 of them ( one for the super J, Olympia, a heavy duty model between super J and Oplympia, and one for the Silverado. I have an ad for the Diamond J 1986 and features one with Diamond Jubilee edition on the label along with the floor polisher. Did they ever produce that one? all I remember from the diamond J was the the introduction of the Discovery Advantage/Discovery II

well they worked alright and yes the first one was with the ap200 and they used a direct air motor so all the dirt and stuff would go through the fan first and some also came with a power nozzel but I dont know the whole story If I am not mistaken the borwn trivac (ap280) was able to power a powernozzzel for a chain of resturants that wanted them but then the deal with electrolux fell through so they are quite rare if they have the plug for a pn. And I know if I am wrong doug knows the whole history.

I use that Trivac now and again for a quick pick-up, and as long as the fan and fill tube are clean, they seem to work well for what they're designed for.</span>

Trivacs

Hi:

The Trivacs were a Canadian product that came out with the AP200 (Yellow) in 1976. There were 4 versions made the model 1421 (Yellow)- 1976-77, model 1428 (Brown) - 1978-1982, model 1450 (Almond) 1982-1985 and the model 2102 (Jadestone) 1985-1987. They sold for around $100 but were often available as a closer. Instead of taking money off for your trade in they would give you a tri-vac for it.

They are a very good machine as far as electric brooms go and do a great job with a power nozzle (See info below)

The trivacs were never actually sold with a power nozzle but they were designed to have one. Around 1980 Electrolux Canada took a large order from a foreign department store for trivacs with powerheads. While the order was still in production something happened and it was cancelled. The brown powerheads that had been made were broken down and sold as replacement parts for the PNV which is why you see alot of them with brown hoods and / or white elbows and bases. I managed to get enough parts to build a couple of the powerheads so a friend and I have brown trivacs that are an anomaly in our collections, set up as they were designed to be, not as they were sold.
