I completed two machines recently, and have been wanting to post pics of them, but decided to wait until after the Convention. Had a great time BTW...but will talk about that on the Convention threads.....

OMG!!!

Rick,

You did an amazing job, just amazing. Congratulations. They're beautiful, absolutely stunning. Do you ever sell your rebuilt machines?

Mike

Holy Cowabunga!

I can't even pick one of them that is the best. They are all so beautiful. I can't wait to here the stories of how you did it!! Congrats. John L

So stunning a resurrection, Rick, it's 'weep worthy'.

What a lovely color. Mine is a pale orchid/mauve or maybe just severely sun-faded. (?) That's a Kirby hose. Duh. The diameter and coil is a match for the Westinghouse ends. I do need to find a T-6 dusting brush and hard floor nozzle...

Say, has anyone come across a transparent blue spray coating paint - like in 'Crafty' stores? Haven't found anything locally. I seem to recall my brother used some on a model car back when we were teenage model builders.

There are a light and a dark gray and a silver 'hammertone' like spray at the local hardware store and if I could find a nice transparent crystal blue it would be perfect over the hammertone for the pair of MONITOR canisters and the blue painted aluminum wands and tools.

Thanks for the compliments folks....But!

I think the talent is in choosing the right materials. And patience. It takes about two months of (off and on) work to produce these results. As far as the work done, anyone can do it! I just said to myself after returning from N Canton, I said, Self, no more machines until after fall. So today I dropped off some parts to a LF&C Whirlwind, and another, older, deep maroon Westinghouse to the rechromers... I can't help it!! I'll post some pics in about four weeks. These two machines are in pretty good shape, so most of that time will be waiting for the parts to come back. I've got plenty of machines to do to last until I croak. So again thanks, But like I said above, no special talent here.

Mike: Don't think I could part with them when their done, it would be like selling a part of me. Some parts could do with replacing though!!HA!

Dave, My camera adds blue or purple to my pics, so the Westy is very close to the color underneath the handle in front covered by the aluminium trim. It is a lot more metallic though. I almost painted it "camel" brown, thought it was original, didn't know until I took it apart what the real color was!!

Doug, I did restore a 1941 Chevrolet way back in the day, and really it's the same materials and procedures used for automotive body work.

Rick

Everyone believe me those two machines that Rick restored are even more beautiful when you see them in person if you can believe that. Both the Lux and the Westinghouse look better than the day they left the factory. Rick, you truly have a gift!!!! Great to see you again too at the convention, we sure had a great time. Terry

Thanks Jack....

I enjoyed yourself and Mike so much! What a treat! I hope your flight back went well and you were able to re-adjust to the time changes etc. Thanks again for the compliments.

Rick

Excellent Work, Rick!!

Those vacuums are absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! Every one of your restorations that I have seen has been first class all the way! You've even taken machines that were so far gone that most of us would pass up, and turned them into works of art!!
By the way, it was great seeing you again at the Convention!
Jeff
